Kale and I have been working with the company that runs the server. Apparently the hard drive on the server was failing.

It was shut off for several hours to prevent further damage. Since it is working now, I guess a new hard drive has been installed.

Thanks for your help Kale.

i'm not seeing all the smilies

i tried screwing around on the admin page but couldn't fix it. i did make some arbitrary changes though, that i might change back (ie: more room in the reply box)

i was computer savvy back in the days of DOS. i can pretty much use any system, fixing it is a whole 'nother ballgame though.

DOS? ;)

I was 14 when Windows came out.

My dad tells me stories about DOS and manual memory allocations.

Still getting error msgs... my last post didn't post, at least that's what I thought until I checked the site again today...

so maybe this will work?

anyway, my cell phone has a 400 mhz chip and 128 megs on board, plus a 1 gig SD card. My 1st computer was a 33 mhz that you could overclock to 66 by pressing the "turbo" button, I think it had a 40 meg HD...

I learned on an Apple 2 and 2e. Graduated to a (trans)portable KayPro (CPM OS) with 2 floppy drives!!! My first Bill Gates computer was a 286 DOS machine (forget who made it) I bought at Monkey Wards. It cost about 1700 bucks and didn't come with a printer! Oh - it was a Packard Bell.

Now, to get back to the subject, does anyone know when this site will be back to NORMAL?

That is a cool computer Leo. I remember using an Olivetti desktop computer in Junior High School in the early seventies. There was only one of these machines for the whole computer class. The machine could only add and subtract. It used machine language. I think it had four memory registers and to do computations you had to transfer the numbers to a special computation register. The do multiplications you need to do a series of additions. That machine retailed for $3000 in 1973.

In high school in 1976 we were still using a mainframe Monrobot from 1948! Many New York City High Schools had those machines. Computer technology obviously did not advance as fast as it does now. That Monrobot used punch cards to run Fortan IV language.

This board will be running like new soon. It fact it will be running better than new.
