I noticed that alot of members over at the Modular Forum really critized SH and remarked that they would never have much to do with him. Why all the harsh words?? Anyone here know? Anyway I plan on getting the book. Just wondering out loud.

Geno- Please explain your comment. I know that you are a well respected and contributor to this forum. I just thought that this book was like days of old where we had the "FORD MUSCLE PARTS BOOK" that gave us all a sensense of what it took to make these motors perform. Again I ask what is the problem with HS as he apparently has enough to document to write a technical book. Are his writiings and assumptions totally false, and or has he some how cheated some folks and is fabricating totally what he has in print. Don't getme wrong, I haven't got any ties to SH or have I yet to read the book, I was merely asking if he burn't folks, and why all the anamous about him.

Well, I heard people say that he has "forgotten" to install critical valvetrain components in a couple of his modular motors, and supposedly his pistons are crap. Again, just what i heard.

"I heard", and "Forgotten", and "Pistons are Crap" appear to be subjective comments that may have little or no basis. Can you or someone be more specific?? Has he actually built a grenade for some one who can tell the story, or are we into a "peeing contest" Again, I am only asking for info that can be legitamized as to why there are some who are negative to SH. I have seen some of his pieces and I thought they looked rather well thought out from my casual observation. If SH is a bad builder then we shouldn't beat around the bush, and let fellow members get burn't. I am just courteously asking for honest feed back from those whom have done business with him. I have seen negative feed back on some of this sites's sponsors, and can honestly tell you that I felt that the negative comments appeared to come from people whom were way above their heads in making some of the judgemments that they did, speaking on a technical merits only basis. They were not realistic in their expectations or not communicative in their expectations initiatly.

Sean Hyland is overpriced. His parts may be of high quality, but his customer service dept is a little lacking. If you would like some legitimate feedback, i know Ponyfreak off the board has done business with him ONCE, and he regretted it. Also, check out www.corral.net and be ready to be overwhelmed by the amount of unhappy customers. People should stay away from SH IMO.

This book has been sitting at my house for a week now.

I have dealt with Sean hyland on two ocassions. First off I bought some +2mm valves from him. SEnt them to the head shop to be put in and guess what no locks and different style locks. So I had to buy locks for 16 valves that cost me 5.50 a pair + shipping because they are special single groove locks. So now the valves cost 24$ a piece. If they would have told me that I needed these special locks I would have bought some ferrera valves instead. Needless to say the heads were sitting there not being worked on and after I had to call them about 5 times and not have someone return my call I finally got a buisness card form one of the SHM guys at the PRI show in Indy and gave him a call directly to get the locks... a week later.

In a nutshell Sean Hyland does know what he is doing, and sells a quality part, but for a PREMIUM price. His customer service blows. From what i heard he laid everything out there in this book.

First off I'll say I'm not a fan of SHM.I have bought parts from him way back in the day when parts were very hard to source.I was sent wrong parts more then once, I was overcharged and went through heck trying to get my money credited back.

Now about the book. Its EXCELLENT.I cant believe he gives away SO much info. Most of the info I already knew since I have been building these engines for a while now.But there was some stuff that I didn't know he did.
I highly recommend the book to anyone here who ever thinks they will have one of these engines apart or to anyone who wants to know how things work.
I never thought I would say this but Kudos to SHM.
