I have a '97 LSC with the JBL stock amplified system. I mentioned in a thread at the beginning of the year I was having issues with the stock system with no reply, so I just figured I'll pose my question on its own.

I plan to dump the head unit and CD player in the trunk but, for now, run the stock speakers and stock amp. I want to stick with a DD unit (probably in the Pioneer line) with the normal necessities plus backup camera. I need to know if there is a stereo install kit out there for us as well as the wire harness kit like from Metra or Scosche (or whatever other brand out there makes a good kit) so I don't have to chop wires and figure it out. A sub and amps is possible in the future but not in the near future. Anyone got the 411 on what works?

Thanks.

There is! I just did this on my own '97

I'm /fairly/ certain it was the Scosche FDK10B, although I'd have to dig through my "extra parts" at home to be sure.

I bought two different kits, mostly because I didn't think it would work with the factory amp, and that I would end up having to make myself an amp-bypass cable.

Luckily, it does work perfectly with the factory amp. Just don't forget to wire-in the "amp-turn on" lead. Both the car's factory harness and the adapter kit do account for this, it's just easy to forget.

Don't bother buying a "mounting kit" though. The one recommended to work with the Mark is junk, and I didn't use any of it. I fabricated some bracketry myself, and re-utilized the nylon "rear support" from the factory stereo onto the new one.

It is also worth knowing that although the opening in the center console bezel accommodates a double-din, the hole in the dash behind it will need to be enlarged significantly. I used a Roto-zip to do this. It was a messy job. :)

Edit: Adding some information

You may find some additional information in this thread: --> http://www.lincolnsofdistinction.or...ll-me-about-your-2nd-gen-double-din-experince

Here's the end result of my own installation. I wish I'd taken photos of the hole in the dash, and the wiring now though..

Update:

It looks like I bought both the FDK8B and FDK10B, but used the 8B kit.

Both kits contain the same two "primary" connectors, but the 8B kit includes an "amp bypass" cable that I didn't need.

I bought both as I had anticipated having to do some fancy splicing to make all of the speakers work using factory wiring. Crossovers for the (separate) factory front speakers are within the factory amp.. In order to keep all four, I had planned on building a crossover solution to mount in the trunk that I'd need the extra plugs to accommodate.

The wiring working with the factory amp saved me a lot of work. :)
