When the Dieselgate emissions scandal broke, Volkswagen put a stop sale on TDIs and eventually started buying back hundreds of thousands of affected cars from customers. Hundreds of those cars now sit in the abandoned Detroit Lions stadium parking lot, others are rotting on a decommissioned California Air Force base, and thousands are being held at a port in Baltimore. The photos of these oceans of cars are a sad sight. ...

I got to flip through the service history on the TDI my friend is shipping off this coming saturday. After reading all of that, it's not too sad at all.

I do think the seats would have been a nice upgrade for my Dodge, though..

Mine ain't there - YET! Damnit!!! Turn-in date is March 9th. And the money won't be in my bank account until then either. Mine will prob end up on the Baltimore lot at the shipyard. BUT...because of the low mileage, it might end up on a salvage lot waiting for the fix of the type 3 engine which has been approve to install in it.

after working on VW's in our private shop, I honestly dont know why anyone who knows about cars would ever buy one. Maybe they're fun to drive, get good mileage, are safe, and affordable, and that's all good.....until they need repairs...then they're just plain idiotic.

Like Lincolns?
apples to elephant ears, my friend.

Lincolns are the easiest cars I have ever worked on...the engineers need to be castrated for the locations of some of the parts, but at least they built them well.
The German engineers were just trying to build their cars so that only THEY could work on them, I swear.

check out the inner door skins, riveted on to the door shell...you have to drill out rivets....a lot of them, to get to a window motor or inner door handle...tell me that's logical.

lets make water pumps with plastic impellers that corrode and fail in 5 years and if their lucky, the timing belt jumps and wipes out the valves.
Lets put the DEF reservoir in the trunk so you can spill the pig urine on anything remotely close to the fill hole.

at least an 18 year old kid(or younger) with basic hand tools can repair most anything on the Lincoln.

Today was the day!!!! My old VW might show up in one of those photo's now - prob one of the Baltimore Shipping Docks lots tho. Got more than I paid for the Z and it brought my saving account back to lots more than it was when I borrowed from it last June! AND the Z is getting better mileage than the danged old diesel car!!!! Plus, gas is cheaper than diesel fuel...... see ya all Fords!

I think I heard on the news that some of the billion dollar fines were settled, will end up costing VW like $10B when it is all over. I heard some of the executives involved may do jail time in addition to personal fines.

Yup...now Bosch, who actually made the PCM and programmed the software for VW is also in hot water over the scandal. Learned we are getting another $350 from them !!!

I figured I can afford to drive a mile from my motel east of the fairgrounds!!!! Save the 350 to spend on a steak!
