It's interesting how the "cockpit" configuration is reversed. As you know, the center console/lower dash-center, is angled to face the driver. It looks like everything has been "reversed" to accomodate RHD, except....the key/ignition location on the steering column. I guess Ford/Lincoln figured, why bother making both sets of columns for each RHD/LHD market.

I think that the common sence answer to the key cylinder/lock remaining on the same side as here in the states, flying in the face of literally everything else being moved to the oppisite side; would find it's answer in the fact that the majority of people are right-handed, and would carry their keys in their right hand, and would have to then transfer the keys to the oppisite hand to insert into the key cylinder on the left side, had it been moved over there.....

Bah. If they can shift with the left, they can crank a key. it was all about Ford not wanting to re-make the steering column assemblies for both "side" drives. its always about the mighty dollar.

I don't think this is something Ford themselves did. I could be wrong on this particular one, but American cars have a big cult following in Oz, but not big enough to justify official importation (except for the Mustang Cobra). Almost all American cars you see in Australia are converted by independent companies for a rather large fee ($10K-$25K), and are usually of fairly poor quality.

aren't the pedals in the same configuration as a LHD car? So if they didnt change that, why would they change where the hands go?

Pedals on RHD car are the same configuration as RHD. I'm not sure how they work the pedal operated parking brake though.
