Is this anal?

Some of my friends think I'm crazy because I go to extreme lengths sometimes to park the Mark so that I can pull straight out of a parking spot, eliminating the back up procedure. I figure why put the drivetrain thru all that backlash if I don't have to? Plus I usually have to park far enuff away from traffic to avoid the careless door dingers.

Yep. Anal. I can see doing it because you're a creature of convenience, but "drivetrain backlash???" C'mon! Your drivetrain is designed to go forward and back.

I still think those U-joints (at least) would rather keep turning in the same direction, rather than back and forth. Especially if you tend to take off right after starting and the engine is idleing a little faster.

Somewhere I read that most people have a general idea of how an engine works but hardly anybody understands the transmission. I confess to fit into that category.

I always park out in the middle of the desert if I'm going to some place on the east coast, but I don't find a spot where I know I won't have to back out of.

You could always put the car in neutral and just push it around.

Well, its good to see I'm not the only one. I park far away from everyone, pull straight up so I can pull straight out, and arm the alarm. I'm thinking of deploying electronic fencing and attack dogs to provide security around my cars perimeter. Anal nuh.

That's exactly the scenario I'm trying to avoid. And I'm glad EVERYBODY doesn't park that way or Scott and I would never get such good spots. :) Oh yea, it makes for a fast getaway, too.

Norm, yours left the garage long enough for you to do "flame gauges." lol

As far as anal..hmmm...that's a tough call..my neighbor told me I should seek psychological help because in his words, "you've been polishing that car for like 12 hours." =)

And parking away from everything is NOT always the safest way...I parked away from all the cars in a Walgreens lot...at the bottom of a hill taking up to spaces on a diagonal, and wedged in against a curb...I have $800. worth of shopping cart dents for my careful parking job...=-(

Scotty,

I always thought that "Accord" commercial..the one with the chic putting out rope barriers around it when she parked..should have been for Marks..=)

RE: Is this anal? (capitalize ANAL!)

I usually park in the back 40 just so I can get it parked, go into the store to do business, and get out. Sometimes it makes my wife mad because she has to WALK. Anybody else have this problem?

I try to park far out, to avoid dings and also for the exercise. Now, not using reverse? That to me is a little ridiculous. U joints aren't THAT hard to replace. As far as transmission function, the two key things would be: Don't change forward/reverse when moving (either way) and install a transmission cooler. After that, what does it matter how it works.....

I don't park out in the back 40 to avoid dings for my sake. I do it to keep Sandy from killing me.

But, Dave - You recently said you had Dent Dr. take out a Dent in the Hood! Wasn't it Winkin ?

How is Winkin? We have Pinkin & Winkin on the LOD board, now! Great Kookamonga :)

I'm going to actually post a suggestion which has real substance.

Get a shift kit about those shifts so when you shift it wont rev before it shifts.

As far as what your saying about putting wear on the drivetrain. WTF are you thinking boy. You need to get slapped into next week.

As my dad always said, "Its only plastic and metal".

RE: Is this anal? (capitalize ANAL!)

Anal...hell this is anal...Saturday night my wife wanted to get away from the house for a while so we decided to drive up to the coast of New Hampshire to spend the night. We checked into one hotel carried the stuff up to the room but I was just not comfortable with the parking situation for the Mark. We left and went in search of another place. Down the road was another hotel. I checked in and was told to speak to the valet for where to park. The valet said there were no spots near the hotel and he would take my car and park it by the water tower 1/4 mile away. The hell he will... no one but me drives my f-ing car! We checked out of this place as well and found a place away from the ocean with lots of space for my car and even though both prior hotels offered king size beds I slept much better in the tiny double bed knowing my car was parked safely.

Ahhhh!
It is nice to be in a group where you don't appear to be toooo weird. Reading this thread proves that you are all anal in the best sense of the word. I hope I live long enough to see a "National" gathering of the Lincolns of Distinction Club, somewhere in the middle of the country, and then I will get to see all the fine Mark VIIIs and other fine Lincolns that have been cared for and preserved by all you "ANAL" folks like me.
I park in "handicrippled" spaces, and still in Tucson last month, my car was shopping cart dinged right under the passenger side outside mirror. Now I get to have the ding pulled out. The absolutely first dent the car has ever had. Oh well, I guess one ding in 10 years isn't bad. DAMN!

Dittos Tim. Actually I'm looking forward to the first time I meet even ONE of you/these screwballs.

Are you the guy that always says; "I never make fun of handicapped people.......if it wasn't for them I wouldn't get such good parking spaces."?
