I hope this is appropriate here. Everyone knows the name. He is our shock mount, delrin bushing, strut rod sleeve, etc etc guy. I started this campaign for him. A lot of us deal with Jay on a business level but here is our chance to give back on a personal level. Floods suck. :(

Oh, man. I'm sorry to hear this. Kirk, thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Jay, please check in when you can. Let us know how it's going, and the extent of the damages. I hope you and your family have someplace safe, and dry to stay.

Well everyone, this was short-lived.

I have contacted GoFundMe to issue refunds to the donors who have given so far to the relief fund that I started for Jay. He has expressed that he is thankful for the consideration but does not want our money for his personal use and I have to respect that. Please do not donate to this campaign any further. I have deleted the post on the social network and after I get the refunds back out the campaign will be deleted tomorrow. Thanks for understanding.

After this has taken place, I will post here requesting a deletion of this thread.

Ok, that was quick. Customer support has already gotten back to me and issued the refunds and deleted the campaign.

With that said, this thread can be deleted please.

Thank you.

I don't think it needs to be deleted.

Thanks guys for your concern. We're doing ok. The crawl space flooded, and then flooded into the garage, and submerged the downstairs HVAC air handler and ducting with sewage water. We got a quote yesterday for $6450 for the those. It's something we were planning on replacing soon-ish anyway. The flood/hurricane just moved the timeframe up a bit. :( Looks like we'll be doing the floor insulation as well since it's likely that some of it got wet too.

As far as I know, nothing else was ruined. Luckily, my wife woke up while it was happening (3am, I was at work), and had the presence of mind to pick some stuff up off of the garage floor. There was one box on the floor with a spare set of midnight black seat skins that got pretty wet. I haven't had a chance to try and clean them up yet, so I'm not sure how those'll end up. Other than that, just a LOT of wet boxes.

I'll go ahead and post this here too.

Wow, guys. You don't know how much my wife and I appreciate this. It touches our hearts immensely that you would consider this.

I've never really been one to speak very eloquently, and I sincerely hope not to offend anyone by saying this, so I'll try my best not to.

My wife and I consider ourselves quite blessed that our situation is much better than others in the area. Our situation aside, our hearts are broken and grieving for others in our area.

As I've mentioned before, even less than a mile down the street from us, there are families that have lost everything to the floods, not to mention the downtown area where there were several people who lost their lives. We have it so much better than them, that I wouldn't feel right accepting these donations for my personal use.

I'd like to ask your permission to donate any money that is received through this gofundme campaign to floodscwithlove.com. It's run by our church, NewSpring. It's a "multi-site" church, where there's one main campus in Anderson, SC with many other "satellite" locations spread out around SC, including 2 campuses here in the Columbia area. They're in a unique position as a church, since they are literally spread out over the entire state of SC, with an average weekly attendance of around 30k people! They are making extraordinary efforts in the affected areas of the community toward cleanup and restoration.

Again, it's not my intention to offend anyone and their generosity. We SINCERELY appreciate your thoughtfulness. We would just really like this to go to families that are truly in need.

I, for one, wouldn't be too happy about a basement filled with sewage.. ick. This reminds me of an episode of "This Old House," where they installed a fancy anti-backflow valve on the main sewer outlet of a home. That idea is sounding better and better...

Jay, I'm glad the place is still livable, and that most of the valuable Lincoln parts were saved.. :D At least the repairs should give your home a notable bump in energy efficiency..

Well, it wasn't straight sewage, but it wasn't straight water either....

Luckily, my wife took pity, and cleaned most of it up while I've been working so much. VERY thankful for that!
