I have a 98 and used Kooks headers with the EGR on them what's the difference with the earlier Hatter its 20 cheaper do you still have the plug the EGR obviously once somewhere but they are the same fit?I have the o3 Terminator manifolds and Flaming River joint I was going to use them since I'm putting the cams back in figured I don't want the horsepower lost although I'm not sure how much of a difference it will make

It sounds like he's considering one of two different versions of the Kooks headers. I've never really looked into them, but I'm surprised that they would have "old" and "new" versions. Unless one has the EGR bung where the other does not, or some sort of coating..

I think nearly everyone who does aftermarket headers goes with that Flaming River joint, so it's good that you have that. If you've already got the terminator manifolds, I'd be tempted to use them. I hear they are better than stock, at least. It seems like a good "first stage" to me..

If you have the headers just use those unless you want the car to be quieter. You will have all the connections for EGR, O2's and air injection. Also, if you use the cobra manifolds you must delete the EGR and the Secondary Air Injection. If your state does emissions testing then that may be a problem. You will also have ot install O2 bungs on the exhaust pipes.

I have the cobra manifolds so I know exactly what is needed.

yes I was inquiring as to the difference of the 93-96 header difference between the 97 and 98 ,apparently there are more egr bungs on the 97 98as opposed to only one on 93-96 style.both of the headers are almost identical according to cooks and both will work on the 97 and 98 which I had on my last 98 LSC with no clearance issues. I scooped up pair of 03 Cobra manifolds and Flaming River joint with the small dd Slug and was going to use them and now I'm thinking headers because of the Cobra intake, jlt intake tube, 90mm mass air, cam shaft. it's all about exhaust evacuation gaining the most horsepower. There was an article in muscle Mustangs on a98 Cobra where they used the same camshaft which I also had in my last motor and had a significant gain over 50 horsepower and almosy 70 foot pounds of torque overall with headers. They ran the baseline with stock motor producing 305 horse as specified just added the cams and gain 40 hp and 50 something foot pounds of torque and they came with sort of the same style shorty header exhaust manifold.it's going to boil down a money versus convenience factor since the motor is out of the car already installing and agreeing the cans and putting the headers on the shop is only going to charge me an extra 200 for labor on the motor swap versus having to put the headers on later when the motor is in the car. if I can keep the motor presently in my car from going completely and save the money I'm putting the headers on if something happens I'll just drop in the motor with the Terminator manifolds.which will be up for sale with the joint and slug if I put headers in

96-98 headers have the extra provisions for the emissions systems. i assume its for the secondary air injection.
93-95 headers do not.

they both have egr provisions, and both O2 sensor bungs.

Which cams?
Installed how?
Kooks will give you trouble down the road put on the termi manifolds they will handle the HP ballpark your playing in.
