Since the car was beat down do not "flush" the trans. As stated before drain and refill that includes the converter and use Mercon V as it is the only fluid that is to be used in these.

Why do you say not to flush? Wont pushing the fluid through the system clean out more of the transmission?

That's exactly the problem. The friction material from the clutch pack is floating around in that fluid. While that makes the fluid dirty, it also still remains a way to help the packs engage. If you flush all of the contaminants out and continue to drive on that tranny without getting the clutch packs replaced, they will slip all that much more. You will regret getting a complete flush done after that.

That's why dropping the pan provides the best alternative as you can see how bad the trans is by seeing what is in the filter and pan.
