Saw a group of LOD cars at Carlisle in 2000, the first time we went to Carlisle.

I remember looking online for a Mark VIII forum in early '99 and not finding anything. I discovered the original board, Calvins, not long after that, though. I have text messages still on this board (migrated over) dating back to 2003 (first one I still have is from Phatz!). I ran for BOD and was elected in 2004. I think I found this place in 2000 or 2001, if not late '99 - I remember reading it religiously, if not obsessively, in college. This was the forum I "cut my teeth" on, so to speak. I consider many of the people here friends, whom I have now known for close to 10 years, or more, online if not in person.

I may not visit much anymore - since I don't have a Lincoln - but I will continue to pay my dues and to be a member of the club.

I now regularly visit 2 other forums - lakestclair.net, and a private forum called GFY. I occasionally visit a snowmobile forum and a PWC forum. I have looked at F150 and BMW forums, but I have no desire to actually become involved in them. BMW people are just... weird. When I search for how to replace a serpentine belt I get a procedure to replace the belt, all the tensioners, and all the pullies, as preventative maintenance. That's just... weird! But it's great having all the brand-specific forums to find that information. I wouldn't be able to maintain anything without the internet! But I keep coming back here, because I've been here for so long and I know so many people here. This is where it all started, for me!

Yeah yeah yeah... Mr. I never drive to Cape Cod, but every time Joe drives to Detroit I can't be bothered to make the like 20 minute pilgrimage to go have many many drinks with him...

and yes, that was my very 1st, 1st gen MK8... towing someone elses very stuck 2nd gen off the wet grass...

Ah the good ol days... I remember walking over to see all the Marks since I started going to Carlisle with the SCCoA in 2000.

Shoot that even brings me back a little. There were more than just Joe, Eric, and I in MA and active back then, too. Heck, Eric was the first board member I ever met, and the only one I met when I had my '94. I must have joined up with viii.org back in 2001, and coincidentally, that site looks exactly the same. (And the people who run it now still seem stuck to their same fascist moderating habits.) I remember somewhere along the lines Jay telling me the forums split apart, and I sighed in annoyance because now I had to keep up with 2 sites.
