Manually shifting vs. Drive setting

All,

With my '95 LSC I noticed when I manually shifted from 1-2 I would get at minimum a "chirp" of the rear tires. However, when I left the car in Drive I wouldn't get so much as a squeak on the upshift.

Has anyone else experienced this?
Will it be the same with my '98 LSC?

Thank you,

Thanks Geno . . . I'm quite certain I always had the OD on - I had no idea it effected anything besides top-end when not accelarating. This may explain the lack of "chirp" I would receive and the fact I turned quicker times by manually shifting. I did also find better times with the traction control on and loading to 1500rpm for launch. . . . I'll let you know how my '98 runs when I get it out there.

I don't know about the '98's, but my '93 is like day vs. night with the O/D on vs. off. The article posted above indicates higher shift points with the O/D off. While that may be, it doesn't explain the better performance in first gear 0 to 60, does it?

Since I have a chip, I leave the shifter in drive. I find better results with traction control off and just romping on it. The T/C on vs. off seems to have less disparity compared to the O/D on vs. off IMHO.

Stock, my car was nowhere close to chirping 2nd. After a dyno tune (with changes to make the shifts harder) it still doesn't chirp (but the shifts are definitely faster and harder). I have no internal tranny mods. YMMV, but I think most 2nd gens are like this.

My '94, when stock, would chirp shifting manually, but not in drive. I don't recall if my '97 would chirp at all stock, but it definitely does now. It'll send you sideways going into second if you're not careful.

I was chirpping all yesterday with mine ;) (but not in humid summer weather)

But I have a chip, on the other hand, I have 245's.

Bummer . . . I really liked ripping off a nice "ERRRRRRTTT" when I hit 2nd gear at about 50mph in my '95 LSC.

Looks like I may have to do a bit more to my '98 LSC to get the same . . . its definitely a head turner when a luxury car rips off a chirp at 50mph in a 45 or 50mph zone . . . I love the looks on faces - - granma's car my @$$!!!

I've been told my car chirps second sometimes (I don't manually shift). Stock. Still. Not for long...

Hit up Baumann Engineering for a KILLER shift kit for those wicked second gears.

Can you imagine the looks on the faces of the people I do that second gear deal to on the Street??? LMAO!!!

That was at the track with VHT sprayed all over it too, in the humidity on the street that second gear hit's 10 feet longer.

LOL!

You can save the money for a Baumann and just do the "Jerry mod" listed on www.tccoa.com. You get much the same effect, and the person who came up with it engineered the tranny, rather than reversed engineered it. Whatever you decide, read through the "tranny's 101" article over on tccoa before you do it.
