Mark VIII values

Am I just having a run finding expensive Mark VIII's or are these things going up in value. Seems like I'm seeing a lot of nice ones now in the 10-15k range.
Is this the norm?

Is that what people are asking or is that what they are actually selling for?

Mint low millage ones are getting harder and harder to come by, but i can see them actually selling in that range sans some very low mileage mint CE. Or maybe a highly modified custom.

Hard to say if they are selling or wishing. Harder to say what they actually sold for?
Just seems like those number keep showing up for the nicer/low mileage ones.

you see that 15k pricing on ebay, but they don't usually sell on ebay.
or they do and then get relisted.
they can ask whatever they want of course.
and there are a few out there that are worth it.
hard to say with private party sales. hard to track what happens.

there is a guy asking like 45k for a spring feature car.

The issue with the spring feature car is that only a few Mark VIII enthusiast know what they are, and they know it is just paint and not worth much if anything more then a regular Mark VIII of the same year and condition. Now if it had a factory super charger that would be different.

It was hard enough finding mint examples with low mileage 10 years ago, let alone now.

I agree, the asking price and the selling price are often two different things. I surmise the age of the car is just now approaching what some jurisdictions label historic or antique and that may be a consideration of them appearing on the market?

the part many people dont realize as far as "values of a used car"...much of that is based on reported sales prices through DMV, which varies by state.
In other words, if I sell my car to John for $5000 but list the sale price on the bill of sale for $500 to help him save on taxes at the DMV...guess which price gets recorded? Now that particular year/model car was recorded as selling for $500...if 21 of them sell that year for less than $1500 on record, guess what the value of the car would be scored as?

And we wonder what kills prices....good for us buyers....bad for us sellers.

But yea, most of the used Mark VIII's I see for sale around here are piles of poo with less than 120k which means they fell in to the wrong hands early on, and were abused.

sad to say, a high school kid can afford a Mark VIII on a minimum wage part time job these days. When I was just 23 years old I went to the SF Internation car show in November and sat in a black on black 93 Mark VIII and fell in love. it was a $37k car back then.
Now the same car with 78k miles on it, well kept and in good shape is only worth about $3700

For cars that sell on ebay, the sale price is what is paid, same for reported sales the car auctions and retail dealers. Only private sales may have incorrect info and the DMV in NJ does not let you low ball. If it is too low of a price it raises rad flags to them. Bottom line a car is only worth what the buyer is willing to pay. The last Mark VIII are 19 years old now, and the oldest 24.

I think we all were, at some point.

But my "high school car to destroy" was an '82 Buick Skylark. I don't feel too badly about that one.

I did not get mine until I was out of high school, but is was a 77 Pontiac Ventura. A year later I broke the crank shaft flying down route 35 down the Jersey Shore. It was a 301 ci V8 with 2 brl carb and 3 speed THM350. It had over 100k miles when i blew it up.

I tried to destroy my 1969 Mustang by going dukes of hazzard with it....but it made the jump, outran the cops and ended up getting stolen and found in another state.
But, that wasn't a High School car...I didn't have a car in High School...I had girlfriends with cars. Got my license when I was 18 and wasn't even in to cars....I was a sponsored "street-style" pro-am skateboarder with a 1978 VW van.
Later sold that to buy the 1969 Mustang. A shattered left ankle and a chick with a wicked heart got me off by butt and working on cars for a living.

So did the cops ever come looking for you?

The only time ive had to use a car to get away was when me and my friend went to an abandoned asylum. Didnt know there was a drunk guy gaurding it with a gun, almost left her behind because she was so slow

In crapy CT, doesn't matter what the purchase price is, DMV goes by NADA book, and that's what you pay sales tax on.

Not sure they knew who it was...we were taking it up a mountain to an old quarry where we used to go 4-wheeling and drink beer and light bonfires...someone said they saw the cops coming up the hill so we all scrambled...it was a dark night and I decided to take a different way down the mountain...ended up selling it to a buddy who took it for a test drive prior to paying me, and never brought it back. I got a call from a guy in Arizona saying his step-son left it in his driveway for a few months and he tracked it down to me and if I'd send him the title so he could get it hauled to the scrap yard....turns out he must have wrecked it and swiped the engine and trans and left it at someone's house.
I told him I'd send the title if he sent me $5000

never saw the money or the car.

LOL... I'd like to have a couple of the cars back that I destroyed! :eek-large:
I ruined a very nice dark titanium '89 Probe GT turbo :( Since I started driving in '95 I have only seen one other dark titanium '89 Probe GT so I think I wrecked a rare one. I'm sure most of you think I'm crazy to even like a Probe but those 1st gen turbo GTs were really fun, practical, great on gas unique cars. I've had 3 '89 PGTs in the 22 years I've been driving. Been looking for a forth for years now but I'm being very picky and the really nice ones only come up for sale like once a year it seems. I might just buy my 3rd one back from my buddy I sold to him 15 years ago. It needs some help now and I'd love to restore it.
