Message Center wont turn on

Heya guys,

Got a 1997 Lincoln Continental and so far I love it. 4v V8, leather, blood stains in the trunk -- everything I'd hoped for!

Anyways, the gauge cluster works like a charm, as does the odometer; but, the message center is not lighting up. Every time I start the car it makes a "beep" sound after 10 seconds or so of idling and I'm afraid it's telling me something important (IE: "Air bags full" or "low awesome-juice, add more awesome-juice")

Any suggestions on getting that motha trucka to turn on? Light bulb in the dash? Fuse in the box?

Thanks everyone!

Best,
Chris

PS: Mods, if this was supposed to be in "electrical" please feel free to move it.

Sounds to me like a "general information" kind of beep.. like "low fuel" or "oil change required" Could be anything, really..

I do believe that many Ford cars of that era used the same display, so parts should not be too difficult to come by if you are willing to take it apart. I think I have seen the same module in our Mark VIIIs, as well as Explorers and Mountaineers.

First, check fuses. :)

*sigh* I'm hoping its a light bulb. Dont want to polish up a bunch of connections in the back of the cluster without a good way of testing to see if I'm accomplishing anything.....
