MKZ questions for you folks

Spend the $ on what you want!! Self-sell the Marquis...you'll get more.
I know if I sell the Grand Marquis, I'll MOST LIKELY get more. But how much more?
plus...it's the logistics of said act:
I financed it. I dont have the title. Then the whole "sell it, then not have a car until I buy another one"
or
"buy the next car, then deal with selling the Grand marquis and hope I get what I owe on it otherwise I have to put cash in on paying it off which I am trying to avoid." Lien holder wont release the title until it's paid in full so obviously any potential buyer will be untrusting of that BS. Plus I'd have to go get it smogged (California) which adds $100+ to the mix. If there was a potential for a few thousand more $$$ I'd obviously try but it's about worth what I owe if I wanted to put some serious "selling" effort in, which I dont. I just want to step out of it, and step in to a MKZ, and foot the negative equity on the new loan.
Plus, the MGM has a 3.99% interest...the MKZ will have 2.64% so technically, the negative equity will almost wash itself by loan's end on the MKZ.

I'd rather lose a little and carry the negative equity on to the replacement car's loan to prevent using any "cash". I am one of those buyers...I rarely put cash down or add cash to the deal. I did so on Brenda's HHR to make the payments a lot lower so I could pay it off before the warranty was up.

Bud, is your car Magnetic Metallic? Any better photos of it?

The V6 I found is magnetic Metallic and I've seen so many different photos of it. Some appear pale gray, others are a deep gray with heavy metal flake.

I found a Gaurd gray (almost green hue) that fits the bill perfect but of course, it's 2.5 hours away....again..SML.

beeeeea-UTIFUL!

I....MUST.....Get one. Love that color. You're lucky you dont have to have a front license plate where you live...we do here in Cali, and without one, the front fascia looks so much sleeker.

I have made progress with my girl Brenda....she is annoyed with me changing cars more often than most change their internet passwords.
You can almost hear her "eye roll" every time I bring it up. UNTIL....she saw the interior of the MKZ.
I know, simple people, simple pleasures...she's got her car, and that's what pleases her....but even though I don't need her approval necessarily, but it sure helps when much of my free time is consumed on the net searching... and she will drive it from time to time...
I am mre a fan of the black interior but she really likes the two-tone parchment/dark charcoal interior so I am including those in my search now as well.

Bad news is, I have found 3-4 good candidates BUT they are a long drive away. The closer ones are just simply out of the budget.
I have a ceiling as far as payments go and the closer ones bust right through that. I have to set some kind of goal or I'll end up in the dog house, ya know?

Now to really decide if I want the V6 for the extra HP or the 2.0T for the economy. I think when I started this quest I was leery about the V6 due to the chain-driven water pump and the PITA it is to replace should/when it fails.

Time to do more homework (and soul-searching).

Thanks for the nice pictures BUD!!! They are like a juicy carrot at the end of a stick!

The MKS went in for a blend door repair, so got a 2017 MKZ loner car. It was nice, but I still prefer to drive the MKS, yes the MKZ looks sharper. However for me my Flex is the most comfortable for me to drive.

I found 2 candidates: Both are the same price.

2015 V6 AWD, 35k miles, 1 owner(lease return, not rental) certified pre-owned, so 6 year/100k bumper to bumper warranty. Black on black with hazelnut seats , console inserts and door arm rests. it's an odd 2-tone, as most include the dash when there are 2 colors, but not this one. I really love the interior. It has the THX-II, heated/cooled front seats, heated rear seats, conventional sun roof, lane departure system, and the park assist. I really want black...and this is it.
I was avoiding the V6 due to the cooling pump issues I've read and the transfer case (PTU) but I spoke with a master Ford tech who assured me the cooling pump issues are few and far between and the PTU's are also rare to fail and if they do, they are cheap to replace...then again, I've got 3 years left on the warranty (and 65k miles) so I'll either re-up the warranty when it expires, or trade it in.

The other candidate, which until Wednesday was my first choice. 2016 FWD with 2.0 Eco-boost with only 28k miles! Magnetic Metallic with light tan 2-tone interior(wife lives that color combo) but loves the black exterior more. Also a CPO car with same warranty. No THX-II, no lane departure, but also has sunroof, heated/cooled fronts, heated rears and 2 new tires.

The thing that put me on the fence as far as to which one is: On Wednesday, the Master tech informed me he felt the V6 is a better engine all-around as the 2.0's have oil leak issues and some have cylinder head issues as well. again, the warranty would come in to play here.

Both warranties offer rental car reimbursement should the car need a visit to the dealer.

The Lincoln Certified pre-owned warranty has nice things...rental reimbursement even if it's in for a recall, and of course for warranty repair. I can have repairs done at an independent shop as well, which comes in real handy since I manage an independent shop.

The 2015 is 45 minutes away...the 2016 is 2 1/2 hours away, through SF Bay area traffic then south towards garlic country...a VERY long haul to buy a car for sure.

Last night I installed 2 used seat belts in the Grand Marquis to clear the pre-tensioner air bag chime/light and codes and then gave it a bath. I'm headed to see the 2015 in a couple hours. I dont NEED to buy the car, I have my own financing so I hold all the cards...if they wont play nice on my trade in, I will drive home and probably keep searching. I most likely will NOT make the 2-1/2 hour drive to see the 2.0 FWD one unless my eagerness takes over after seeing the Black one.

Time will tell. I'd really love to have a black MKZ...and rightfully name it: Black Ice MKZ

FYI CPO is not a 6 year/100k bumper to bumper warranty, it is a comprehensive warranty coverage with a $100 deductible.

Also it does not cover repairs at an independent shop, • Service available at any Lincoln Dealership in the 50 states and Canada, and could probably get repairs at a Ford dealer too.

I found all this out yesterday. Thanks Guys. I also found out what it is like to be a MKZ owner!
I bought the V6 AWD. I knew these cars were nice *looking*, and had some nice features but I had NO IDEA how nice they rode.
It has 38,500 and it's initial in-service date was 4/1/15 so I still have 1 year or 11,500 miles of full warranty.

I arrived in my clean-as-can-be Grand Marquis. This dealership has a nice way of doing things. Their platform for sales is "your sales-person IS your finance/insurance person". There are no back-and-forth conversations behind closed doors which was very nice. My salesman had the MKZ ready when I arrived. I was going to start off by discussing my trade-in BEFORE even opening the door to the MKZ but they told me they would buy my Grand Marquis (like Car Max does) even if I don't buy the MKZ so my "plan of attack" was not needed/stifled.
We took it out on the highway for a few miles and then returned on a nice empty service road. Then he took the Grand Marquis for a spin and left me to walk around the MKZ for about 15 minutes. They offered what everyone else did (about $100 over KBB) and then put numbers on paper.
Within 2 minutes of sitting down, I began to sign for the MKZ.
Had the service department not spent 45 minutes cleaning the car and gassing it up, I would have been out of there in less than 1 hour. It was by far the best experience at a car dealership I have ever had. I had my own financing in hand, so it was all about filling in the blanks and signing all the boxes.

I had no idea how much metal flake is in Tuxedo Black. The Hazelnut seats fit the interior perfectly to soften all the black.

The huge perk for me was that is was a leased car, not a rental which typically helps ensure it was taken care of, and this one sure was. They tinted the rear 5 windows and added scuff protection inside the exterior door handle areas to prevent scratches. I saw the inspection/service order and they also replaced the battery.

I could go on and on, but you all know already.
I brought it home playing with the adaptive cruise control, lane departure, sound system etc and waited for dusk to play with the ambient lighting and to be amazed by the exterior lighting.

Cant thank you folks enough for answering my questions. The new era of Black Ice has officially begun.
Black Ice MKZ. Now to learn how the enable the smart phone app at MyLincoln to have remote access to the car's "health" and be able to remote-start it from my cell-phone, etc. I have a Iphone so the app is called something else. Cant seem to get the Lincoln Touch to activate the app. I have the phone sync'd already to the car....now time to hit the books.

as soon as I take and upload some photos I'll share.

The tuxedo black is fantastic. I think it was Steve's MKS where I realized how "metal" it was, and I love it.

Does yours have the self-parking? Try it. It's frighteningly fast.

GREAT lookin' car.... altho NOT my preference. I love looking at other's black cars but HATE the paint maintenance on black and white cars. As I HAVE to park in driveway, I need to use all painless methods to keep my cars as clean as possible with as little maintenance as possible.... have found that gray is the best for me. Guess that's why the good LORD gave us choices, eh?

Thanks gang....I am absolutely in love with this car. I need to clean it up (it's been through a few days of rain since purchase) and post better pictures.
I do truly love the metallic paint in the Tuxedo Black. The photos of the hazelnut seat color doesn't really show well. It fits the interior quite well and breaks up all the black.

I cannot thank you all enough for your input and words of encouragement. This is one purchase I feel I deserve and have earned. it sure makes sending those payments every month a lot easier, if you know what I mean.

Oh, and I guess I did something right with the old Mercury...the dealer has decided to keep it and sell it rather than ship it off to auction. Usually a 12 year old car with 117k on the clock and in need of new tires and brakes wont make it passed the service bay, and typically goes straight to auction. Not this one...they fixed it up and are listing it for an ABSURD amount of $6491.
it books for about $5k on a good day, and the dealership prides themselves on the whole "no haggle price"....It's painted on their wall!

Anyway...the new era has begun...and I am sure I will have more questions.
I need to bring the owner's manual in to the bathroom...it's always a great place for reading.
