I hear the best bang for the buck would have to be higher gears ( such as 3.73 and 4.10's), headers, and a new torque converter. Those are mostly up there in price, so I'f you are looking to spend a couple hundred bucks, a peformance chip from LMS or Reinhart performance is a good start. Also the Baumman shift kit is great for firmer shift points and longevity of the trans. I'm relatively new myself, and I'm slowly learning more and more daily. Hope I helped you out a tad bit.

Congrats on the ride and enjoy !

Can't forget the Exhaust.... That was the first thing I did and loved it. I went with the Stainless Steel Magnaflow mufflers and 2.5 inch exhaust pipes with single X-pipe. Cost me roughly $550 with labor. Sounds great and lets some extra HP loose. Geno from Lincoln Motorsports sells a full exhaust and many other goodies for the ride. Check him out at www.lincolnmotorsport.com .

MAF and exhaust aren't going to make your car much faster. If you want to go faster in the quarter mile, start with gears, then get a chip from Dennis, SCT, or fordchip. A high-stall torque converter also makes a huge difference, as do headers, but both of those are a PITA to install. There is no need to replace the MAF unless your car is heavily modified (ie: supercharger). Any power you gain through changing a MAF (except maybe 2-3 hp) at this stage can be gained "the right way" through a tune.

I have a Bauman shiftkit for sale....but shoot, it's for the 96+.....Anyone else interested?
96+??? Why would a shift kit be different from earlier 4R70W's?? I may be interested, however I have a '93.

I dunno what the difference is actually. I was just told that it won't work with the pre-96 4r70w's/AODE's.
After looking into it some, I think it has to do with the valve body being different.

Exhaust-Chip-Mass Air= around 50hp!!!
Thats what I was quoted from Geno at LMS
This should be one of the most cost effective ways to get your 1/4 mile time down really low!!
Give him a call 1-865-456-3605 he should be able to help you make your selection or go to Lincolnmotorsport.com or click the banner at the top of the page lol!
I will be going with their products for my mark 8 which is a 93-they have a double xx exhaust system which is comparable to that on the new Marauder and they have an awesome product knowledge and enormous knowledge of these cars!!!

Sounds fishy. Please tell me you didn't believe that. Unless exhaust includes LTs or at least Midlengths. Then it's not so cost effective anymore.

I don't know Romer, I was awfully close to pushing the alert button. Sounded very much like an advertisement to me. LOL.

Yes, check Geno out at LMS. He'll set you up and is a very square shooter.

It's 50 Gross hp. Not wheel.

That is a realistic tried and proven gain for almost 7 years now. 1.5-3.0 better mpg too. The mod's pay for themselves in less then a year in just fuel savings alone.

MAF and exhaust aren't going to make your car much faster.
??????????– With all due respect, this wasn't true with my car at all? My car went .3 faster in the quarter mile with just the addition of a cat-back exhaust. Maybe .3 isn't a lot for the mods sleeper is doing to his car? ;-) I went from 14.6 stock, to 14.3 with exhaust. No stock Mark VIII has gone faster than 14.6 (at least not on this web-site), so the .3 gain is as real as it gets.

As far as starting mods. I only have one mod on my car, at cat-back exhaust. I have owned my car for 7-years and put 147,500 miles on it. Again that exhaust gave me a .3 second improvement over the 1/4.

I have played with other 'mods' like MSD plug wires and K&N panel filter, but I don't really know if they did much. Copper plugs do make a difference though.

Good luck!
