more telescoping wheel and drivers seat problems

I searched for this but found none that matched my problem. My tilt works fine, my telescoping feature however seems to be stuck in. I've pulled on it while hitting the switch and it seemed to move a little bit just once. I know the switch is good because the memory system saves the settings after I let go.

Now my seat....does everything but move back and forth. It just grinds. The seat isn't that big an issue since its set where I need it. Just can't stand hearing the grinding when I flip the seat forward. The wheel is something I do need. It needs to be a bit closer. My arms are getting tired reaching for it since the seat don't move. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks and Merry Christmas!

You can turn off the Easy Entry feature with the drivers settings button. Also turn off the memory settings. Your wheel will stay put and your seat won't try to move when you flip the seat back forward.

A good hit with your palm on the steering will usually get the tilt/telescope temporarily working again. Move it to the desired position and leave it alone.

All of my functions still work but I turned everything off shortly after I got my 98. I don't want them to fail in an almost undriveable position.

I agree, turn off the easy entry, I wish I could turn it off for the passenger side, but you can for the drivers side. My telescope and tilt first go the opposite way I move the button, then they move the correct way. I turned off everything as well, but cannot turn off passenger side easy entry, a few other things I wish I could disable, like the chime when turn signal is on for awhile and still moving. I have to merge across four lanes and two merging highways, and it is long enough of a merge that the turn signal chimes telling me I left them on.

If you remove the trim panel underneath the steering wheel, you can unplug the motors for the tilt/telescope and apply 12v to them to put them in your desired position. I can't remember which one is which, but they're all the way at the end of the steering column assembly, closest to the firewall. Once you get them where you want them, you should be good.

Well I use easy entry as I am a rather tall guy. It makes it a lot easier to get in and out especially with my back. And I'd like to keep my memory and auto glide since I have to put my son in the back a lot when I have him on the weekends. My driver 2 is for when I have him since he likes to kick the seat (he's 2) and drive 1 is "racecar mode" lol! But id like a permanent fix. If I have to replace something so be it.

I've had problems with the wheel not getting back where I want it after flipping the seat up to allow access to the back seat as well. Both motors, telescoping and tilt, work fine sometimes but not others. I have 3 children under 5 years and from time to time I'll take one or two of them in the Mark VIII. I also like to enjoy all of the features that our cars have to offer and I've stumbled upon a website that gives what seems to be excellent instructions on how to replace these motors and make it seem fairly easy.http://www.lincolnsonline.com/tech/.html

Is there a chance the switch has failed on the telescoping feature? Can't get mine to move either direction. Tilt works fine. Tough to replace switch or do you have to pull the whole assembly to get to it?

The seat sounds like the gears are stripped, I'm not sure if anyone has replaced them successfully, otherwise, you'll have to swap the seat track with a good used one.

Some people have had luck rebuilding the steering column, and cleaning the potentiometers. Search potentiometer for related posts.

I don't know if its the switch or not. It makes clicking in the relay so I know its getting a signal. When it does move it does so with help and acts like a kids toy running out of battery juice. It slows to a stop. I'll take a video and post it up in a sec
