Movin' on up

Just thought I would add another 13 second Gen 2 to the NA list. :p

So, I'll start out with the bad. Arrgh. This tune is still full of fail and I am to the point now where I need to just get it on the dyno and have the transmission parameters done right. So, with the exception of the first two runs, I manually shifted the car which seem to keep the car from falling flat on its face a little less anyways. Magically, when I did it that way, my trap speed went up by 2-3 mph which made a difference on my ETs.

Maybe someone can explain this one to me, but I just cannot seem to crack a sub 2.0 60'. Pretty much all my 60s are 2.0x

When we left the track, it was unseasonably hot at 84 degrees and once it got close to 80 degrees my times were pretty much 14.1s the entire time. While this may be disappointing to me at first, I had to think about it for a second. Last year, we had a hot track day just like this in the 80s. I was running mid 14s. So, considering, the car has definitely gotten faster when considering the conditions. I would say 3-4 tenths faster. I had a couple 13.9s when it was 79 degrees out. Never saw a 13 again after my thermometer read 80.

Anyhow, if the weather turns cold next weekend, I plan to hit it again. If we can get some temperatures in the 60s, I see the possibility of a 13.6 I'm going all out and aiming for 13.5 though. :D

Here is my 13.788 run. It was 76 degrees out. :)

Here is a 13.976 run up against my buddy Dan in his bracket car. :p

I don't know what tires your running but you have to get that thing to hook. You will be in the 13.4 range once your 60fts are in the 1.8xx range without changing anything.

First and foremost, I need a re-tune and some time on the dyno. I have a chip tune from a guy out east and it sucks. Bad enough to the point where I had to manually shift it because the thing fell flat on its face into 3rd gear and couldn't break its way out of a wet paper bag. I ran the Mickey Thompson E/T street drag radials and had NO tire spin which is why I was confused and hoping for better 60s. I dead hooked all day. I don't think it will have a chance of low 13s until the tune is redone and it is put on the dyno. I have found out first hand how hard it is to get these 4000# boats into the 13s let alone low 13s. Tuning sets me apart from the guys running low 13s. I'm pretty sure all of them have Pro Racer Packages, dyno tunes, and the like.

Get that RT down and it will help as well. Take .2 off you RT and you could have seen a 13.5XX instead of the 13.7XX just my 2 cents from my experience in running bikes for years.

Reaction time has absolutely no effect on ET.

You're always one step ahead of me. :D I was going to say the same thing. :p The timer starts when you cross the beams, so whether you have a triple 0 light or a triple 9 light, your ETs will be the same. 60s is where it is at.

Generally my RTs are .1xx. I had very few higher than that, and some that were in the sub .1 range

So, my reaction times are pretty good but if the car can't get out of the hole faster to start the whole process of getting down the track, getting better ETs becomes pretty tough. And, I also noticed that if I ran 99mph at the traps, I was guaranteed a 13 second slip. Oddly enough, that is still a pretty low trap speed for the time I ran comparing to other cars running around my time on the NA list which I believe is a direct result of the tune.

But as the day went on and it got even hotter, I remember running two passes with a 100 mph trap speed. That tells me the car has some more potential.

The one slip was at 100.16 mph and I ran a 13.813 and the very next run was at 100.20 mph and I ran a 13.791. By then the temperature was 80+ degrees out and I was sweating my ass of inside of my helmet LOL :p

After that, it was well into the 80s and I was running 14.1s and 14.0s. I only had one more decent run at 3:21PM. It was now 83 degrees out and I ran a 13.982.

I compared these slips to the 80+ degree track day last year, and like I said, I am quite satisified with the bump in performance. Last year, I was running mid 14s on a day pretty much a mirror image of this one. Heat soak comes on very quick with these engines, especially with the aluminum heads and such. I could hot lap it for 3 passes and watch my ETs get worse on every slip.

Your right I was in the middle of a conference call and going back and forth with an archetect and a client. All the while searching LOD! Now I feel like an idiot for the post I did mean 60' times. Brain fart!

It didn't take me long to realize that in my '93.

You need a cooling fan bypass. ;)

Or...

Unplug the harness connector on the AC Compressor. Turn the EATC on to MAX AC.
