MRHYDE needs front brakes

I am in the process of researching replacement rotors and pads for my front Brembo setup. I stupidly wasn't paying too much attention to the brakes until I noticed the passenger side wasn't actually working:embarrassed:. I need to smarten up sometimes. Unfortunately when I looked at the rotors I noticed they are pretty much gone! No more slots there, so again:embarrassed:. But considering I only put like 5500 miles on them i figured I didn't have to think of them for a while - ignorance sometimes is not so blissful.

I believe Mike (mlschultz) had at some point posted a link to a page that described the different types of pads (red vs green, etc, for brake dust etc). I can't seem to find it now though. I'll keep on searching.

So, in summary the front passenger caliper is not actually putting pressure on to the rotor and when I release the brake it makes a squeaking/creaking noise The brake dust that is created is unbearable. The rotors are done! I'm looking for a 13" drilled and slotted rotor with good wear characteristics and likely a red pad for minimal brake dust.
Just felt like sharing. Feel free to spoon feed me some great info.

Here is a link to the EBC web site. I have had the same set of EBC red stuff pads for 2000 Cobra R Brembo calipers, and Baer EradiSpeed+2 rotors on the car since 2007. I am more than pleased with this set-up.

Here's the part numbers:

M2300X Ford Racing/Brembo 13in 2000 Cobra R Front Brake Kit
136-2261002 Baer Eradispeed Extreme Plus 2 piece Front Brake Rotors for 1999-2004 Mustang Cobra
136-2262001 Baer Eradispeed Extreme Plus 2 piece Rear brake rotors for 1999-2004 Mustang Cobra
DP31031C EBC Brake Pads for 2000 Cobra R/Brembo Brakes

I did not mention in my post that I also had a Mustang Cobra hub conversion so I could use those Baer rotors. I was not sure if you had done that or not. The rotors will not fit on stock Mark hubs. Good luck! :)

9904HABA Front Hub and Bearing Assembly for 1999-2004 Mustang Cobra
YR3Z1109AA Rear Hub for 1999-2004 Mustang Cobra IRS
E9DZ1215A Rear Wheel Bearing for 1999-2004 Mustang Cobra IRS
BR57B Rear brake pads for 1994-1998 Lincoln Mark VIII
Ed's Rear Caliper Relocation Kit

Thanks for the great info Mike, part numbers and all. You're a good man. I was reading in other posts where you and others said good things about the Baer rotors and I was leaning towards them.
I am very curious as to what is happening with the caliper, hopefully just needs some grease?? And yes, Jeremi did a hub swap for me a few years back.

Now, forgive me, I am NOT a mechanic, but I like to tool around when I can. Do I need to buy racers for those rotors? Every time I have done brakes in the past (I'm talking 10 years ago, at least, since my last) I had to pop the racers out of the old rotors. Is this still the case? I didn't read anywhere about this.

No you are doing nothing with the bearings as they are a sealed unit. The rotor is a floating rotor that just slides on over the center hub and wheel studs. This is after you remove the caliper. Brakes on the new stuff is easy compared to our old set ups from the past.

Ah, if I just thought it through logically I should have realized that. Thank you sir.

Warden,

I know your using Brembo calipers up front, but not sure about the rears... If you are still using mark viii calipers with relocation brackets, this would be the part number for EBC Redstuff pads --DP31164C

Dynamite, thanks for the heads up. Since I wasn't really expecting to be dishing out close to a grand in rotors and pads so quickly, I will hold off on the rears as they are fine right now, but I will be adding that part number to the list. In all honesty, I can't recall what Jeremi did in the rear so i'll have to recheck the thread.

I never order parts on line - prefer to get them directly at the store. But I just placed my order for the rotors (Jegs - all had the same price) and pads (Amazon had cheapest price!) but are out of stock, and likely not delivered till late june. Oh well. It'll give me some seat time on the bike i guess. Wish I had more time in my days, nights, weekends to do proper research to maximize my efficiency. Meh, such is life.

Good Luck! Hope it works out for you, like it did for me. Just be careful cleaning the anodized rotor hats. Some wheel cleaners will actually stain them. Ask me how I know...

lol Every time I have work done on either The Mark, or the SL Mercedes, it is expensive. The SL has like 12 hydraulic cylinders that operate the top, and the one I am having replaced right now that sprung a leak - the LEFT BOW EXTENSION CYLINDER MERCEDES R129 SL-CLASS, is a $900+ part from the dealer. :eek-large: I found a company that rebuilds them, but the car is out of commission for a couple weeks while parts are shipped back and forth across the country.

Those race pads that were installed in those calipers take a toll on rotors for sure. It's always a trade off between snappy super brakes, or long time wear.

EBC reds should be fine for you though. Rotors won't matter as much IMO.

I'm not sure how much of a rush you are in to do this, but give me a call. I could head up to your place to give you a hand or you can head down my way once you have parts. It shouldn't take long at all.

Of course i'm in a huge rush for this. Already having withdrawals. And Eric, that is the best offer i've had in a while. I just may take you up on that. I still don't have a jack:fart but I do have Jack Stands LOL. Anyway, I would love to have you there (or come down to your place) to show me what to do. The pads dug into the rotors so far i don't know the best way to back them off so I can get the rotors off - there is at least an 1/8" pocket that they are sitting in. It would be nice to have you there at minimal just to educate me on the best method to get this car on 4 jack stands (for all future reasons).
In fact though, I am an extremely patient man and the rotors aren't scheduled to ship from Baer until the 17th or so. I am hoping to have bought a Jack (or two) and some more tools:thumbsup: by the 21st, and tackle it then. If you are available that would be great, if not all is good.

And Jeremi, what kind of pads were those again? because.... damn..... those bite hard, stop fast, and destroyed those rotors LOL. I wish I had paid better attention, especially considering how often I needed to clean the brake dust off. Oh well, luckily i'm not too too old to change, think i'm right at the magic age to be educated better AND broken from my bad habits.

They were Raybestos ST Series Competition Brake pads, I believe the ST45 compound. They should have a number stamped on them. I am curious myself now as this was definitely the best biting pad I've ever used on any car, including the GS Z06 brakes.
Those strut rod bushings got a work out everytime you touched the brake pedal for sure :eek-large:

Well since you have jack stands, just lift up the car and I'll throw them under it. Seriously though, get a jack, some wheel chocks, and a decent set of mechanics tools. The next three weekends are basically completely booked up for me. Most of the evenings next week are booked up too, but after that I think it should open up a bit. But once you get the parts maybe we can plan something right after work during the week. A simple pad and rotor change shouldn't take us long at all. If course I'd rather do it in my own garage just because I know what tools I have. But if you think you have everything I could always come by after work one day.

I bet the strut rod bushings are trashed. I felt like we hit a brick wall when he stomped on the brakes once near my house. Unbelievable!

The car is still pretty solid, there is no slop that i feel. I really only stomped the brakes to shock people (like 8 times tops, if that). I dont really drive my cars hard at all.
