flowmaster 40s. imo they sound nice. or you could go with the xpansion mufflers from lincolnmotorsport.com -- which sound bad ass and look great

Blacktrain - on my 97 Thunderbird I went with a mid-mount Magnaflow #11385 dual in/dual out muffler that I got on the 'Bay. On the 97 LSC I went with a Flowmaster 50 Series dual in/dual out but I should have gone with a Flowmaster Super 40 or Super 44 Series for a more aggressive sound. The 50 Series is too mild for me - it's actually made for trucks and SUVs. On the Mark I also ditched the rear mufflers and had the shop fabricate a custom H-pipe where the 3rd cat/resonator was. I kept the factory cats - simply because the driver's cat is part of the exhaust manifold. Didn't want the shop to deal with it.

On my Gen 1 ('93) I eliminated the 3rd cat and the small, restrictive factory muffler which was just behind it. For awhile, I had a pair of Magnaflows mounted out back, in place of the huge resonators which were original to the car. This worked out O.K. but I wanted just a bit more rumble, so I tried a set of Dynamax Bullets for awhile. There was a droning sound audible at highway speeds with the Bullets, and the exhaust note itself was not really that pleasing to my ear.
The Magnaflows are back on the car now, and I'll probably stick with them for awhile. For the time being, the only other exhaust mod I'm contemplating for that car is maybe an H-pipe. I'm wondering what potential power increase (if any) I might gain by adding the H-pipe. I don't know if any one has ever dynotested this (before/after) on Mark 8s but I'm sure that would be of interest to many of us here.
For anyone who is considering eliminating the other two cats, (just behind the manifolds) you don't want to do that on any otherwise stock Mark 8, your engine will run poorly without the back pressure they provide.
As for the Bullets, I'm thinking maybe they'll sound better on my '96 Chevy pickup..

uhhh, no.
back pressure is bad. back pressure keeps the cylinder from emptying. that's bad.
you want exhaust velocity.
exhaust velocity helps with cylinder scavenging. an empty cylinder gets you more power.
now don't gut the cats, the large hole where they were makes for poor exhaust velocity. and that hurts performance.
removing the cats and installing properly sized pipe won't hurt anything. but it probably won't help either.

my brother's taurus has 0 cats, runs like a bat out of hell.

What I am saying is this : On an otherwise stock Mark 8, if you eliminate all three cats, while making NO OTHER changes, your car will produce less power.
I think most of us learned in hot rodding 101 that getting rid of back pressure is one of the ingredients for increasing power potential. But if you want H.P. and Torque to improve, then you cannot disregard other important aspects (Fuel & air mixture, ignition timing, for example..)
