Never been sick this often... (kinda gross)

I seriously don't know what is wrong with me... but I have had this re-occurring sore throat, cold like thing put me down 3 times since thanksgiving.

Every time it starts with a sore throat... and I am always coughing up a bunch of crap. I also can't sleep at night waking up every 20-30 min or so... which is seriously affecting my work performance.

So the first time I was sick for 3-4 days on thanksgiving....

Then I got really sick right before my New York trip... and that was for 9-10 days... finally got better by the 14th of December. For a couple of nights I would almost choke on mucus... and wake up gasping for air and then have to go and spit all that crap out (sorry for the gross-ness)

Now I just got sick again as of the 24th.... this time my lymph node is swollen... I think I am going to visit a doctor today or ASAP, this is driving me nuts.

I will probably be sick for 20/30 days.... and of course I haven't been sick all year until now.

Any advice?

Yep, go to the doctor. It might be bacterial and you might need antibiotics. In the meantime, use Guifanesin to loosen up the phlem and help you get it out. Don't use cough suppressants as they just keep that stuff in your lungs (although you could probably use a short acting one at night so you can sleep).

The 2nd time i got sick I also had a bad caugh... now I don't so it is a bit different.

I have an appointment at 1pm today... so hopefully I will know more within the hour. :(

I don't want to be on antibiotics during celebrations and such :( that would mean no drinking.

sounds exactly like what i have right now too, sore throat, coughing up phlem, but i can sleep at night, but the morning is a killer, i cant even swallow without almost being in tears, i have to drink something right away to lube up my throat, during the day i can live with it, but we're moving right now to the new house and i have 0 energy. but with me being a smoker, my throat hurts 10x more then normal, i have been smoking way less just because its very uncomfortable. but, its not my 3rd time with this, this is my first cold/cough in at least a year. mine usually go away pretty quick on their own, i'll see what happens, but i feel ya max, sucks.

Wow, Jaime you should get that looked at.

I wonder what's going around now? I know a lot of people at work have been sick on and off with various viruses.

Take a doctor's advice, go to a doctor.

I have been battling viral upper respiratory infection for a month. I just got released from the hospital yesterday for pneumonia.

Get checked for mono......the symptoms can vary. I wasn't tired at all but very sick, turned out to be mono. I was working way too many hours will continuing to be sick. Turned out I missed a month of work because I became so sick. I couldn't eat for weeks and lost over 30 lbs.

get checked for mono.
years ago I had what I thought was a cold. Then I thought it was bronchitis(sp?)...then I went to a doctor who told me it was bronchitis...after 2 weeks, and no improvement, I went back again since I could barely swallow, and had shed almost 20 lbs....

sure enough...mono.

right now I just got over a respiratory cold...boss comes to work with bronchitis...knowing we dont have paid sick days or vacation, yet he comes to work, hacking all over everything...then I got it...no doctors for me unless i am seriously ill...I had it for about a week...now Brenda's got it.

Max...you're too young and healthy to be dealing with something so long-lasting...your employer provides you with medical insurance, I am sure...use it pal...if your symptoms dont let up, go back.

Jamie...go get checked at a clinic...but keep in mind, you just prepped/painted a car...no matter how many times you cleaned/changed your respirator filters, without an evac-booth...you got toxins in your system...

that last Dart I had...I D.A.'d it for 6 hours, and rattle-can primered it for 4...I was sick with a sore throat and cough(hacking cough...very bad) for two to three weeks after....

it was ALL from the dust/chemicals from the body work. I used to run a body shop bro...if you can smell it, it's killing you. if you can taste it, it is poisoning you.

go to a doctor/clinic=they'll get you an inhaler to help get your lungs cleaned up.

mine is just the typical cold, its already going away, no more sore throat, not much of a cough left but when i do cough, i get tons of nasty phlem, its breaking up real fast, i feel fine now, i think moving to the new house the past few days and really pushing myself hard and sweating bullets, ( been way above normal temps here lately ) has pushed this cold through me fast. i know painting the car last week didnt help, i'm sure you are right about that craig, but im not worried at all now, if i didnt feel good , then i would worry, but i can tell this one will be gone soon, just have to keep smoking and slamming mt dew and i'll be back to new in no time lol. thats my medicine!!! screw the doctors and their exspensive solutions lol.
