New 97 mark viii

I'm now the proud owner of this 97 mark viii LSC!!!...doesn't drive like my 94 but it also has 70,000 more miles....anyway, just had a few questions.

The keyless entry won't open the trunk like my 94. Before I just put in the code in the trunk+ the last digit a second time and it would pop trunk. It won't do this, what gives?

Also I've got a low washer fluid message on console but fluid is topped off, any ideas?

And I've got a check traction control on message center with abs light on dash. Previous owner said these came on after his buddy did burnout. Any ideas or starting points?

Also, I thought LSC mark viiis had true dual exhaust, but my left exhaust has much less flow than right. Does this seem normal or maybe a plugged cat or something?...car has 165,000 miles

Congratulations, nice car and nice color!

For the trunk popper, does it open with the key fob or button on the door?

The low washer fluid problem is common, the sensor and pump is in the tank, a pain to replace.

For the ABS, save time and get the codes read, it's usually a sensor and the codes will tell you which one.

You can use a vacuum gauge to help diagnose a bad cat.

Congrats! :)

Bill is spot on with his comments. If the trunk opens normally otherwise, it sounds like you may have a dead button on the door keypad?

The car has dual exhaust but with a crossover/resonator which merges the exhaust flow approximately midway. You can also cross check the temperature of the cats to see if one is significantly hotter than the other which may indicate a problem.

New car , first thing I do is disconnect the battery 10 min, and start from new. Pull sensor plug on WW and jump with 10/15 amp fuse. wrap it in tape to keep it from getting wet. Put the sensor change on the round to it list. Check and clean rear abs sensors, maybe got some hot rubber on them from burnout. Key fob bad, or just needs a new battery. I liked my 97, but put toooo much $$$ in it. good luck with it

The keypad will unlock the door fine, just wont pop trunk. Also, the trunk will pop open with the button on the driver's door. Am I correct that I should just be able to punch in the code + the last digit a second time to pop trunk?

How do I go about diagnosing the cats with my vacuum gauge?

Passenger door is 3/4 and trunk is 5/6 after putting in your code. 7/8 and 9/0 at the same time to lock.

So we know what the last number in your code was on the old car, it took me about 25 minutes to guess the one for my Mark VIII, just by looking at the wear on the buttons to get which ones were used the most. Yes, the code is also on the hinge, and I know that, but where is the fun in that.

Wow, had no idea it could open the other door and lock doors

Does the car lower itself when you park. I could swear I hear solenoids click and air hissing when I turn car off and get out

most of these questions:
the same as your 94.
RKE combo, then middle button for trunk, 2nd button for other doors, last 2 buttons AT SAME TIME to LOCK/ARM the car.

trans dip-stick is in same place as your 94
air ride works the same as your 94

washer reservoir sensor is done-for...have to remove the front bumper to access it.

probably need a new rear ABS sensor to get rid of the ABS/TRAC control light (common on gen 2's and no longer available new)

only difference is body, lights, interior trim bits, intake manifold, etc. Enjoy the gift of night vision with those HID's....and if your trunk neon still works, stare at it in awe.

otherwise, most of the "gadgets" work the same as gen 1.

The 5 digit code is also listed on the RKE module itself, tucked inside the trunk carpet on the driver's side just forward of the air ride switch. At least on every Gen 1 I worked on, it was there...never looked on a gen 2.

I wish my 06 Grand Marquis had it listed somewhere....no trunk sticker, Ford stopped putting the sticker on the RKE module which is inside the driver's door on my car so the only way i can get mine is to take it to Ford and use a Forscan tool (have to pay $$$ boooo)

A thought, yea I get one every now and then, The 97 is OBD2, where the 94 is OBD1. Plug in a scanner, and see what's up. If you don't have one, any auto store will do it free.
