New battery for the Yamaha

I recently did the ignition timing on the bike, it was different than I was used to with a timing light.:D

You put a dial indicator in the spark plug hole, find top dead center, then back it up to .080" before the top dead center, and adjust the ignition timing plates so the points open there.

It's easy to check, you put the spark plug on its wire, and rotate the engine, until you see the spark at that piston position.:)

I love this simple mechanical stuff.:)

The bike is running great, I've been putting some miles on it lately.

This is a shot of the points and timing adjustments.

In case of an EMP attack, Bill and I will be driving around on a Yamaha bike and Model T.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing, even my 78 MG has electronic ignition.:D

I also have an old working Zenith tube radio with short wave.:)

Here's an actual picture of the points and timing. Also a photo of the odometer when I first started working on the bike last year, and the mileage now.

I've put 139 miles on it so far, this year.:)

I'm glad to see it's treating you well, and I still can't believe how clean everything is in there.

I suppose you're coming up on the end of "biking" season now. time to get those last few cruises in! Head up to Tahquamenon Falls for a beer or something.

Yes, I think I took my last ride for the year today. It's 45 degrees out, I don't have a face shield for my helmet, it was a bit chilly.

I put 187 miles on the bike this year. :)
