New--Mark VIII Headers

Hello everyone...I have a new project under way and need everyones help to push it forward. I have a well known header manufacturer who is going to work with us on headers for the Mark VIII. We need to decide what type everyone could agree on and then we have that style made. The most power will come from long tubes but we can make 3/4 or shorties. To give you an idea of cost we can have long tubes made for just under $700.00 for a full set. I would recommend the long tubes because they are the best bang for the buck. So here is what we need to move forward:
* What type header do we want shortie, 3/4, or Long Tube.
* 10-15 people interested in a group sale
Once I know what everyone wants I can get a rock solid price. Everyone will be pleased at the price though. There will now be choices in headers for the Mark VIII.
Thanks....John

Wow - longtubes for the Mark VIII.

Count me in. :)

I would prefer long tubes but I could even be interested in 3/4 length headers since you can still drop the tranny without the engine - a huge plus if you change converters or swap transmissions.

John, few crucial points (all IMO)

1) uncoated SS 304 material (offset the cost of SS by not coating them)
2) long tube headers only (why bother with anything else really)
3) v-band flanges instead of leak prone 3 bolts (this is really what would make your product stand OUT )
4) head flange compatible with oversized 03-04 4V oval shaped ports (SCP does this )
5) no low level JetHot coating (unfortunately SCP does this too )

Headers

Hey everyone...I guess I left the thread confusing as the headers will only be available in steel. NO STAINLESS. Now we can restart the conversation. Do we want shorties, 3/4, or Long Tubes. Thanks...John

And, are you aware of the differences in the smog (EGR and AIR) fittings between the Gen 1's and Gen 2's? Or are you planning to make race-only headers without fittings?

Headers

The company we are working with does not offer stainless. Also with the limited purchase group I need to keep my tooling cost at a minimum or I can't afford to make and develop new parts. You know if steel headers are properly coated they will last a lifetime and definitely outlast the average Mark VIII owner.
I will make them with all required air/egr fitting for Gen1 and Gen 2 applications.

the 3/4 length from kooks comes into a 3" collectorwhich most go to 2.5 or whatever, the long tubes arent that much longer i know a different pair would be nice, but how much of an advantage are they really worth? 1 more foot of pipe and same collector.just thinking

Even if it's only 10hp... I'll take it!! I'm interested to see if this works out. I've always been under the impression that long tubes won't clear on the MarkVIII.

What's your problem with Bill?
Although I am curious as well, this really isn't the place.

I'm glad to see any and all aftermarket support for these cars, and the workmanship I've seen from John's team thus far has all been top notch. Even though my own car is hardly a candidate for headers at present, I'm looking forward to seeing this project come to fruition.

Never be afraid of getting a little head, Mike. No matter the status of your car. It will help you breathe. :D

I've been dragging my feet, but I'll be sending my set of headers to John soon, in hopes that they'll help him with his tooling costs. They're mid-lengths, but they should still be helpful in setting up to produce the long-tubes.

I'm thinkin of gettin a set for a 96 cobra an modifing them to clear the steering an trans I found a set for 250
From what I understand the clearing issues aren't just around the steering. The firewall/body of the car gets in the way as well. But if you can do it.... Oh and you need to be careful modifying headers. If you go bending tubes too much, shortening, lengthening etc. you can end up hurting performance rather that helping it.
