New Owner - CA

Hi all,

Just bought a base 1998 mk viii with 95k miles. Has some upgrades... JBL, etc.

I've previously owned a 1988 Lincoln TC Sig with the 5.0 (my car in HS), a 1990 Lincoln TC Cartier with the 5.0, and a non ford SUV. I'm fairly familiar with the mk 8 viii as I've always wanted to get one... a little bummed I couldn't find an LSC for a reasonable price, but I figure I'll change the gearing at some point and will do a true dual exhaust anyway.

I did have one question on the paperwork, though. I saw on the factory sticker that it says 100,000 mile tune-up int. I'm guessing this is a 100,000 mile interval, right? Or is it saying that Lincoln covered tuneups and maintenance through the 100,000 mile point? Because, if so, I'm pulling up to a dealership to have them do it in a few weeks.

Nice to meet you guys.

welcome, no dealer is going to tune a 16 year old car for free. That is the interval

Welcome !

Don't sweat the non LSC. Best Mark VIIIs in history started out as base models :love-it:

Where is our California Mark VIII Addicts rep ? ;)

Welcome Enriquei!

I want to say that the manual for my '97 said something like "free PCV valve" replacement at 100k.. I figured that was the dealer's way to get you in the door to sell you on the new Mark IX..

I'll have to check my manual! How many CA guys are here? Glad to see you're a Jeep guy, too!

Doesn't look bad at all! You need to buff that RH headlight to match the left though  I suggest the 3M kit.

I hit it yesterday with the turtle wax stuff. Didn't get it 100%, but I got tired and it was "good enough". I'll probably hit it again in a few weeks. Here's how it looks now:

The wheels were terribly dirty too... I actually had to use some steel wool to get the oil and grime off. Even then, there's still some on the rims. :(

Much better! I tried the Turtle Wax kit but didn't like it at all. The 3M kit is very nice and worked wonders on my tired headlights. You can pick it up at Walmart the cheapest from what I've seen.

My wheels were TRASHED! I spent probably about 2.5 hours on each one just to make them respectable. So I definitely know the feeling!

Will hit up walmart. A bit underwhelmed by the turtle wax. :(

Is it OK to take steel wool to the wheels? It's a bit late now, I guess... haha

I'm guessing they are the stock painted 10 spokes? If so you don't want to take steel wool to them. Use a good paint cleaner on them. I've had good luck with the Blue Magic metal polish on painted wheels but I'm sure there are better things to use on them.
