No instrument lights in my "new" '93

Hello again after a long break from Mark VIII related problems :D

I got a low miles (29K) 1993 Mark VIII, everything works great except the instrument illumination. The message center and EATC displays go dim with lights switch on, but EATC buttons along with gauge cluster are completely dark. I suspect dimmer switch, but I don't have a wiring diagram for '93 so I can't veryfy it.

I already removed the dimmer switch, there are three wires that should power the instrument illumination: Brown (power to dimmer), Red/Black (instrument illumination output), Black/White (disoplays dimming output). Is that correct?

Just to make sure, should I get the instrument illumination if I'll short Brown and Red/Black wires?

If somebody has a wiring manual for '93 I'd be very thankful for a scan of instrument illumination and dimmer switch related wiring diagrams.

Thanks in advance for help!

Welcome back, Mario!

I'll bet once BillCU and Driller wake up, you'll have some answers.

I agree also that it seems like the switch or maybe a wiring problem.

Now I'm sure the dimmer switch is shot. Everything lit up with a fuse shorting two wires that I mentioned in previous post :D

dimmer switch. I've seen them melt/burn from voltage sweeps through the years. flip it over and you'll see burnt contacts/browning of the plastic connector.
