So i noticed the car is pretty noisy when i turn the wheel, sound seems like its coming from around the drivers front tire, anything i should check or should i attribute this to the cold?

Well i'm putting new springs in next week so I'll check them, they were just replaced recently so that's why I'm assuming it's the cold

what type of noise? grinding, thumping, pearl jammy...

Tires and bearings can be very noisy when turning when they go bad.

If you are not moving then it is likely in your power steering system. IS the noise happening while you turn? when fully turned? Only when the steering is stopped but any position?

Or you have some binding or parts so worn out and dry that you have metal-on-metal rubbing.

I personally have never experienced this.

Only while turning. Theres more wear on the inner tread so im leaning towards ball joints. Ive never had them make this sound before though, the power steering fluid could also still be frozen or old. I should replace it either way though

most people change the entire lower arm.

the ball joint can be pressed in and out of the arm with a few extra tools.

oreillys around here rents a ball joint press to customers.
it's not very difficult to do.

i buy most all my parts from oreillys because lifetime warranty and what they don't have in stock, they can usually get next day.
everything they can't get quickly or affordably comes from amazon.

Replacing the arm is better since you also get a new busing at the strut and K-member connection spot. Try to get the TRW OEM style arm which is thinner and has a sealed ball joint. They are better.

Beerdog you originally said the rack so i may as well replace that while im under there too, how do i remove it and whats a good replacement. I dont want any loss in handling from some cheap rack

Is there any good way to check these things before i go out and do this?

The rack is a bit more involved. i did mine when I dropped the K-member and rebuilt everything in the front.

I have never taken off just the rack so I am not sure how much work it is. . The hose fittings may be difficult to get at. You will a have to disconnect the steering column. The rack is held in place by 2 bolts that are easy to remove. Give others some time to respond.

if there is a strong suspicion of it being the lower ball joint I would change the LCA first and see if that fixes it. Changing the LCA is relatively easy. You will be better off changing both sides.

Regarding a rack, your only option is a remanufactured OEM rack or NOS. Ford stopped making new racks a while ago or at least that is what a dealer told me. I do not think anyone makes a totally new rack. My rack is a rebuild bought from a ford dealer. Others may know more about the options.

Yeah, that is indeed what is looks like. I can't say I like the MevoTech parts after had a bad first impression with a pair of their endlinks. I'm all about OEM parts but I know you aren't going to find OEM LCAs anymore. I'm sure others can tell you what they have had good luck with.

I'm gonna do a little more research to find some decent ones, as long as they have some good support and a return policy It should be okay

I'm just gonna go with an Autozone set, they come with a decent warranty and i can get them today. Anyone have tips on how to do this or a good write up?
