Not enough heat

Ever since I've had the car, the heat has never been that great. The blower is not that strong but that seems to be a problem a lot of people have. Since it has been sub zero temps out for the last week my interior has not gotten comfortably warm. The engine warms up fine, and the gauge reads nominal but there never really is hot air coming out.

I had the coolant system flushed when I first got it but other that no other work has been done to the cooling system.

My question is how do I properly burp the system? I can hear the coolant cavitating in the heater core when I'm accelerating so I'm thinking there is just air in the system. Thoughts?

Check EATC module on the firewall if the fan is not blowing at all. Tap it with a screw driver a few time and it will start working.

My brother had the same problem with an S10 pick up.

The engine temp was fine, he replaced the thermostat twice, but it still wouldn't get hot.

A heater core flush fixed it. I just disconnected the heater hoses, held a garden hose to one and ran the water, at low pressure, until water came out the other hose. Hooked the hoses back up, and it's been fine for 3 years now.

Worth a try, it's easy.:D

I wish I had a drain in my garage I would flush it but that still leaves e with the "how to burp the system" problem.

I'd be tempted to disconnect the hose at the thermostat housing and check for air. That seems to be the high point in the system.

I'd actually have to look under my own hood to see if there's some sort of opening for this purpose though. Hmm..

i'm thinking that the filler cap is actually higher that the hose at the goose neck.
i ran it quite awhile with both opened as long as i could. w/o thermostat.

i'll share a little cooling story now.... my 95 tc with almost 300k
started puffin' some white smoke.
I took it down , and not wanting to mess with the funky cam, i tried a product.

now i had a parts car , and i had just put a new water pump , and belt and such , in , and the cooling system in mine was pretty rough (bent radiator from a dented underside of core support) .... changed out everything , and then flushed it all , and used a can of
blue devil http://www.squidoo.com/blue-devil-head-gasket-sealant
and filled it up ..... after a few weeks , i added coolant.... and its all still going strong.
the flushing did help the heat work better, although defroster never did work quite right.
white smoke - gone
'milkshake' oil - gone.
spare engine - still in parts car....

Well we are going to try a different engine because of other problems I'm haveing with the car it makes more sence to R&R the engine. But we still will need to add coolant and burp so we will see what happens.

i don't have a service manual , just a haynes book. I ran mine without a cap on it , and kept adding water(with the heat on) , ...when it stopped needing water , i did the same with the cap on tight.....then i drained 1gal out of the spigot , and added the coolant
