Ive looked all over the net and only come up with matching 4R70Ws on this part number. They say they came in 302 Ford F-150s? I'm thinking it's the new style of the 4R70W?

Here are the part numbers and i will also slid some pics in here. I want to put it in my car as my transmission is having issues. i believe this one has only 10,000 miles on it from a mustang. Still looks new.

Ive also got two 4R70Ws that i pulled from 1st gen car and also a 1997 2nd gen car i can send out for rebuilding up to race specs, but i really wanted to know what this particular one is. Looks brand new compared to the other two which had 80,000 miles each on them when i pulled them. I believe this one came from a mustang. But the part numbers will tell the true story.

Thank you Chris. Doing some research on installing this to be run by my OBD1 car after we pull the trans out. Think its better to use the bulged center pan or the flat type metric pan when i install this? I have both types. I'd love to reuse the art car aluminum finned unit on the car now, as it holds more fluid, but that thing has slowly weeped fluid since i owned the transmission. Never sealed around the gasket edges properly. Always had to wipe edges with rag. I think it was due to it being aluminum expanding and contracting slightly. The steel metric pans i used never leaked once you properly installed the right gasket and torqued them to specs.

The bulged pan should be a '96 and up? And you need the right filter - the one with the extended pickup.

definitely the "dimpled" pan with the 96+ filter.
Rodger that guys. Thanks for the input.

I'll be sending this one out to be freshened and looked over before it gets installed. Been sitting in storage for a while. New pan gaskets, rear seal, Mercon V and all that jazz.
From what I'm reading, these newer transmissions don't need the J MOD as they have already been improved with updated accumulators? Or should we really take this one apart and go that route as per the write ups?
Now to hunt a real torque convertor that will hold up, and should be pretty much set provided this one does not need re pinning and all the plugs are the same. Havent crawled under there to check the harness yet. Still got my Delrin hockey pucks for the rear IRS to install and have my cousin cut/ re weld the IRS support to have longer tabs. My exhaust shop the installed the SS pipes sucks and installed the duals too low and one crooked. i was mad. Now the cross brace must be lengthened to fit. No one listens to you until its too late. They think they know better than you do when i was explaining why (because the brace will be going back on ect. ).

right. newer transmissions did get the updated accumulators and better main controls as time went on, but there is still improvement to be had.
i would still go through the drill specs for the JMOD myself.
some of the separator plate holes may already have been enlarged by ford as time went on, but, drill bits are cheap, and its very easy to check with the trans already out.

I agree. Ill do the Jerry mod and clean it up before i hand it over to the transmission place for inspection before i put it in car. Still have to order up some separator gaskets and get another fluid filter and pan gasket for it before i take it apart.

This website article is great. Pretty straightforward and easy looking to do. Excellent writeup. http://www.tccoa.com/articles/tranny/transmission/

If it were me (with your mods) at a minimum I would have the tranny shop install the hardened stub shaft and kevlar OD band. ;)

What does Lonnie suggest you do for a trans, Jeff? Can you send him a core and he build one for you, or can he rebuild the Art Carr?
