Opinions on wheel color choice.

In an effort to get the MKVIII to look the way I would like it, I have moved a set of wheels over from my Mustang to the Lincoln. They are close to the S197 offset (35mm front on an 8.5" deep wheel and 45mm on a 10" deep rear wheel) and I want to use them (being I am selling the Mustang the wheels were meant for (the wheels are 18"x 8.5" fronts and 18"x 10" rears).

Now, car (97 MKVIII Base) is Gloss Black with the trim getting blacked out (ala LSC). Leaving the chrome surround on the side windows as the only shiny on the car (ok, wheel lips and exhaust tips too). Darker tinted windows, and the headlights/tail lights will be smoked. Hood vent will be Trim Black. Car will be lowered roughly 1"-1.5" with Cobra front brakes (as it is getting hub swapped once I get tires on the rims).

Questions I have regarding the finish (this is where your opinion will help me, as I have a good idea of which way I want to go).

1) Center design of the wheel powdercoated Gloss Black, Satin Black, or Flat Black?

2) Chrome or Gloss Black lug nuts?

3) Keep the 'spinner' (not likely) or have some center caps made with the 'LincolnStar' emblem in Chrome on one of the three black sheen finishes?

Thanks for your input guys. I am pretty close to what I want to do, but would still like/weigh your opinions on the overall finish (lips will remain Chromed).

Wheels are highly a personal taste but in my opinion...

1. Gloss Black would probably look best but would be a PITA to keep clean, so I would go with a flat black and use a good polish/wax to help keep them clean.

2. Chrome lug nuts to compliment the chrome lip.

3. Matching flat black finish center caps with a raised chrome Lincoln star. You may look for Lincoln LS center caps that could possibly fit. That's what are on my FR500 wheels...

What year LS, JP? I got a center cap from a 2000 LS 17" wheel the other day and it was too small for the opening (when a standard Ford 2&5/16" is just a tad too big). I like the looks of your Chrome FR500s (I have a set in 18" SN95 offset for my TurboGT Mustang, with Gloss Black centers).

Thank you for your thoughts on wheel color choice. They will be taken into account when I hit the 'Coaters booth!

Shoot, I forget the year, I bought one on a whim from CenterCaps.net hoping it would fit the knock off FR500s from American Muscle and it did. Then I ordered the complete set. I should get more if they're still available just because everytime I find something I like they quit making it. LOL :D

Found it, but they're 2-1/2" and they're listed as 2007-2011...

Excellent JP, much thanks for both the pics/description AND the link. I can turn down the outside diameter to 2&5/16" no problem, then coat them in the appropriate sheen of Black, leaving the very center raised emblem area chrome.

I agree, wheels are very personal taste. Especially if you deviate from the standard choices most people pick. Buy what you like.

I already have the wheels (the ones pictured in the link in the first post, only in all-chrome right now as it was the only finish i could get them in when I ordered them). Now I am shopping for center detail sheen opinions (they will be black of some sheen, although I have thought about a very dark Burnt Bronze/Oiled Bronze finish as well).

I think the center spinner would looks good. I prefer chrome log nuts on a black car. I have seen a black car with black nuts. The lug nuts are not too expensive. You could try and sell them if you do not like them.

I will keep an open mind as to the spinner/center cap and the Chrome lug nuts. Good thing about center caps is they can be changed out at will! Thanks for your thoughts, I appreciate your time and consideration with this choice I face. I won't be doing the swap until after I get back to Florida, so there will be time to stew with the choices and consider all inputs.

Thanks again guys, and keep the thoughts coming.

Your link was broken so I'm not sure which rims you're talking about. I did the Helo HE844 18 x 8 in the MK8 bolt pattern and they came with both chrome and shiny black inserts. I'm rockin the shiny black ones and I LOVE them. :D

Thanks for your input, and for letting me know the link came up busted! Looks like the links are only good for a short time. I will have to see if I can pull up another link and get the thread back to current!

Found a place (ok, 3 actually) close to where I work that will do the powdercoated wheel centers for $75 a piece, and tires will be ordered once the wheels are done and in my possession.

Still looking at powdercoating. Have been considering the possibilities of either HyperBlack (Black Chrome) or a 'Hyper-style' gunmetal/Graphite color for the centers as well. Too many options that look good on a Black car!

Was next to/ahead of/behind a new-gen 300C SRT8 yesterday and the wheels were either Hyper-Black or Black Chrome. Car was Black as well. I believe that will be the direction I take the wheel treatment as it really looked good on the 300.
