POP UPS

I am getting hammered with pop-up - it is unbelievable - just out of the blue. I have ran adaware 6.0 and reboot about 100 times. I scan the drives and the registry each time I ran the scan. I get it to the point where it doesn't find anything and once I reboot - they are back again...

Do I hear a fdisk coming up?

They are the same pop-ups all the time even when the browser is closed. I think spybot did the trick - I will keep you guys posted.

Well, if the popups apear with the browser closed, just disable the messenger service. It's easy and very effective.

I have tried the spybot and the adaware - checked the add-remove and even checked the registry under run for the startup commands. But check this out. While I was connecting to my pc through pcAnywhere I noticed that due to the lag after a reboot there was a split second where it seems that a program is being launched. What I found was a little item opens and then closes in my task bar that say "PSEAR1" has anyone heard of this. I did a search on yahoo and came up with a dead link...

Here are some suggestions.

1. Stop using IE
2. Install [link:www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/|Mozilla Firefox 0.8] instead. It takes a few hours to get used to, but you'll love it!
3. Go down to [link:www.dslreports.com|DSLReports.com] and visit their Security Forums. Very helpful people there.

What probably happened is some website installed malware on your computer while browsing, most likely using ActiveX. IE's biggest flaw (amongst many) is ActiveX. Do a Google search and you can read up on it.

Hopefully you can once again regain control of your computer!

Sorry for not updating you guys - I found this software called hijackthis and it found 2 of those things that ran pop ups. One was called purityscan.exe and there was some other variation. Well, no pop ups for a few days now - I guess it worked.
