I'm going to pimp my garage and I need some ideals.

On my list to do. Paint garage wall, paint garage floor, install white LED light, speaker and wall mount TV.

Sounds like a nice plan. I skipped directly to step D: Party

Although I would add the "Garage Computer" to the list of required mods. it comes in handy all the time..

Took some digging in the "photo you took today" thread, but I found it.. :) You'll see it up on the shelf in the front right corner. I have a line run to a retractable reel pretty much over my head in this photo. Right inside the garage door, between doors 2 & 3.

Also featured in this photo: my classic Delta radial arm saw, my DIY Lincoln Boom Box, and my collection of Coleman campstoves, among other things...

You still haven't told us how you got it up there, Mike.

I'm thinking about putting mine in the basement and running an air line out under the house to the garage.

Not much has changed with my garage since the lift and air compressor last summer...

Lift photo 1.jpg

Lift photo 2.jpg

Lift photo 3.jpg

Lots of plans for it, starting with finishing the insulation and interior walls/ceiling. I hope to use slat board for part of the walls to help keep stuff off the floor. I will probably use plain white pre-finished hardboard for the majority of the walls. As for the ceiling, I'm thinking white vinyl soffit, white corrugated PVC or metal siding (something light and easy to put in overhead).

After that, my 'to do list' includes:

  • Fluorescent fixtures on each sidewall for more illumination
  • 3 wall mount Tire Racks
  • Wall cabinets
  • File Cabinet
  • Airline kit for air compressor
  • Table for the bead blaster
  • Wall mount vacuum
  • Mini-split Air Conditioner
  • Floor Tiles

I've looked at LED lighting but it is pretty pricey for anything with decent lumens?

I have an old Asus netbook for garage use. WiFi works pretty well with a range extender.

There are some tunes in the garage with a small Sony system the kids bought me.

I suppose a TV with some type of WiFi feed would be possible in the future, but I don't feel the need for a TV in the garage.

I don't have any plumbing in the garage as I didn't want to deal with it in the detached build but I have thought of burying a water line from the house to a yard hydrant next to the garage for washing the cars.

When We moved in to the current place.

Insulation, Hoist, ETC...ETC...ETC

80 Gallon Kellogg American Compressor.

This was my grandpa's compressor that he used in his shop building sprint cars and other race car stuff back in the 50's and 60's. It sat for decades with a blown pump in my uncles garage after my grandpa died in 82. I asked if I could have it to rebuild and use out here.

Call me nostalgic, but it's just how I am. I love the fact I'm using my grandpas stuff to this day. The tank was manufactured in 1944, and the compressor pump was built in 51. (I'm sure it's been swapped before.)

Brazing 3/4" L type copper air lines through out the shop.

Welder.

We originally had a Miller 135Amp mig welder that did....ok. We sold it and bought a new ThermalArc 211I MIG,Stick,TIG combo. I LOVE this welder.

Fabrication table....Built this as part of the Turbo build on the 97.

It's a constant work in progress around here. Next up is a new modular workbench that will house 2 new 56" tool boxes. I'm out of space in the current Craftsman 44" upper and lower.

I added this 12 volt LED 5 meter stripe outside under the patio. The LED stripe is waterproof too.
As you can see from the picture below, It is super bright.

I got the LED light off ebay for $11. I had some 12 volts 2 amp power supply.
Just order 2 more for the garage.

I did order a LED dimmer with wireless control for the garage.

Lurking....always Lurking
Tale of Two Garages

We're in the process of moving. This is what I'm leaving:

old_garage.jpg

Excuse the mess. This picture was snapped after we finished "packing". 3 1/2 cars. 11' ceiling. I've done a lot of maintenance on 4 different Mark VIII's in this garage. I will miss it, but it's time to move on. We're downsizing now that the kids have grown and moved out on their own.

What I'm getting:

new_garage_outside.jpg

East Bay:
east_bay.jpg

West Bay:
west_bay.jpg

The pictures I have don't really do the new garage justice. It's 34' x 34' with an 8' x 4' fireplace. The ceiling is 7' 6", so there's not a lot of overhead room.

There's a lot to be done before its a working garage. First up, rock for the driveway and pad area. Then, new insulated garage doors and openers. I am hoping that the Liftmaster 8500's will fit, so that I don't have to have openers hanging from the ceiling. The ceiling and walls will all properly insulated and dry walled. A work bench will be built along the west side of the garage. Storage shelves will be built on the east side of the garage. East bay will be lined with plastic panels, so I can wash cars indoors!

Show off's. 94, I'm with you on sentimental value. I love some of the stuff that we have from my grandma and grandpa.

We do, for some reason, have a wide screen TV in our garage. Plus it's insulated (actually I'm kinda liking this right now). I don't know what else Hubby has done in there, I left it all up to him. Although IMO it is kinda hard to fit the 2 Marks, the snowblower, the shelving, the air compressor, etc. in there without getting salt from my car onto my coats. Or hitting the side of the garage with my side view mirror (OK, that kinda wasn't my fault cause of the stupid snowblower and watching out for my driver's side mirror....)

Something I have done in my garage is to install lockable casters on all my workbenches and tables. It makes the garage cleaning a lot easier, and allows me to bring my bench or table out doors as well when I am making lots of dust.

Rrudd, that new garage is kickass.

That'll be a NICE place with proper space organization, and cabinetry.

I'm jealous of that.

My list is getting bigger now.

Have any of you painted the garage floor?

Here my garage. I'm been clean it up this week. I'm going to paint the floor this weekend.

The radiator blew up on the CTS-V right after Christmas. Just waiting on the radiator to be built.

Nasty floor.

For the price, I may be inspired to try that! :)

I don't think that qualifies as a 'mess'... you should see mine right now. :(

My cabinets and toolbox have lockable casters. It does help to be able to move them around. My 24" x 96" workbench is not so portable being a heavy steel frame topped with a 3/16" thick plate for a work surface. The small cabinet and mini-fridge fit nicely underneath.

Driller, Just staple the LED to the 2x4 wood and you are set. Super easy. I use a power strip to turn the LED off and on. Just need to get a 12volt 1amp to 2 amp power supply.
