Went to the Apostle Islands this weekend with the wife. Although it was crowded it was cool to see the formations. Plus it was a nice 4 mile hike along the south shore.

Woody Woodpecker trying to take down a dead tree in my yard. I have seen a lot of smaller ones, but this is the first large woody woodpecker I have seen, my guess he is about 14"

Was playing in the paint again. Needs a little more work. Cast white lite in a dark room

Steve I think that's a palliated wood pecker.
They can leave a quite a pile of wood chips in a pretty short time.
It probably hears some kind of insect burrowing in the tree trunk.
Target practice time cuz after all, he's a bird brain and soon enough it'll be after healthier stuff that you won't want full of holes.
