Procrastination at its best. (Neon Light Issue)

J

OCCUPY LoD :)
Since I bought the Evergreen, the Neon hasn't worked. Common issue right...new ballast or neon blah blah blah. The other day I was thinking, "Man, it'd be nice if my truck lock popper worked...." Then I got to thinking, shoot....my trunk light doesn't work either! Maybe...just maybe, the trunk hinge wiring is messed up and it's all tied in together (neon and trunk popper ON the trunk lid using same wiring).

So....11 months later....I pop the trunk, with the key :))), and peek by the hinge. WTF?!

If you look at this picture, the wiring was basically being guillotined by the metal bracket AND was being smashed by the little bump stop on the hinge!!!

Did a ghetto rig and whalla!

Neon works BUT when I hit the brakes or start the car, the Neon goes out.....I'm assuming the ballast is failing? When the car is running AFTER it turns off, I step on the brake and the entire neon flashes for a split second and goes back off. I unplugged it so it doesn't do any damage to it. Seems like too much power and the ballast turns off or fails?

Yeah the flash then off seems to be a common signal of it going out. In 2002 I had the same problem, then it stopped all together, and the ballasts weren't available seperate so I bought an all new "reflector" that had the neon and ballast and everything for $800. I would say get a new ballast and be done with it.

Try turning your climate control on.:D

Just kidding of course.:)

I wouldn't trust those ghetto connectors though. I hate those things. I'd remove them and solder the wires just to make sure first. Then if it is does still appear to be a bad ballast, at least you know the connections are good.
