Question on gas tank clearance

I have been reading all the posts I can on running a true dual system. I simply want a 2.25 system cat back. I have an X pipe and the SCP Polished SS Mufflers all in 2.25 inch. I have stopped at several local shops, show them what I have, they crawl under and say I don't have enough room to go between the gas tank. I tell them I have seen several pics on forums that are even using 2.5 inch pipe. They just kinda walk away. I have a 96 base model, do I need to change gas tanks?

No, the gas tank is the same in the LSC with dual exhaust as it is in the base model.

There is plenty of room under there. I am even running 3" pipes all the way from the headers to the rear bumper.
