Question on photoshop

Hi folks, I recently was messing with photoshop, combining some pics into one pic. WHen I tried to save it, it didn't give me the option to save it as a jpeg file, only as a PS file. I've been trying to get it to save as a jpeg, to no avail. I know very very little about PS, does anyone have any tips? Thanks!

Try the "save for web" option if you are using a version newer than PS 5.0.

The reason jpeg doesn't appear is because the file probably has several layers, and therefore it wants to save it as a layered PSD file. It is a good idea to save your files in a layered format locally, then create a flattened, compressed jpeg version for web/email use.

Always a culprit. IT still gets me even after using photoshop for years.
Save the original as a .psd file in case you want to change the layers later. Then, like has been suggested, flatten or merge layers, and save as .jpeg. If it is being used specifically for web only, take it to "save for web" and make it even smaller. Your viewers will be happy.

Looks like it worked. Shortcut for save for web is CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-S, if you can call that a shortcut!:) Then again you can just create an action for it, with your jpeg compression settings preset, and only have to press one key (maybe F8, for example).
