After about 10 mins my stock 1995 Mark VIII radio starts popping and cracking? A friend says it might be the amplifier. Any ideas? HELP I gotta hear my Classic Rockhttp://www.lincolnsofdistinction.org/vbulletin/images/icons/icon9.png

From my experience the popping and cracking is caused by a bad amplifier.

Other faults I've run into:

Left channel quieter than right channel or FM radio quiet in 93-94 JBL system = bad head unit.

No bass playing CD only, from gen 2 in dash CD player = bad head unit.

Rattle sound from 1 speaker = loose or blown speaker.

The easiest way to diagnose and fix these problems is swapping with a known good component.

I don’t know what year your car is but If you get another amp to swap in, you have to get compatible one, i.e. 93-94, 95-96, 97-98. Several members here part out Mark VIII's so put up a WTB ad and see who bites, that is if you cannot locate one off craigslist.org or on car-part.com.

Same problem with my 95. Radio didn't even need to be on. I pulled the fuse about 4 years ago, and that solved it.
