Recover Visor

Hello All,
I have been wondering how hard it would be to recover visors on my Mark.

I found this thread and photo
http://www.lincolnsofdistinction.or...d.php?39619-Visor-bracket&p=261654#post261654
and seems to show that the visor splits into two and that the material in held in place between the two halves.

Has anyone done this?
Do you have any step-by-step instructions (pictures)?
Where are the wires attached?
Is it possible to use a light leather in place of the cloth?

I plan to experiment with the visors from my Cougar (totaled last year).

Suggestions welcome…:big-grin:

Regards,
Y.

Great picture! :D

What you are actually looking at here is a "transplant" of the HomeLink unit from one visor to another. As you can see, the visors open like a clamshell. They're basically molded "flat" at the factory, and folded in half on the hinge side, secured by clips around the edges. There are spikes around the opening reminiscent of carpet tacks that hold the fabric in place when they are closed.

Just wedge a screwdriver in there and go to town. You can see the clips circled in red.

The wiring for the HomeLink is circled in blue. This taps into the circuit for the vanity mirror, which is a wire that leads out the hinge of the visor and into the headliner. There's a connector right there, so it's very easy to remove the visor and explore it. The connector is actually visible in the very top-left corner of my "cropped" version of that pic.

Thank you Mike,
you have given me some confidence that I can do this without destroying it..

Has anyone tried using a soft leather in place of the headliner nylon?
