Repairing the Multi-function Switch

In my recent adventure changing my heatercore on my 93, I got curious about the signal/wiper control or Multi-function Switch (MFS).

So, while I had the steering wheel apart I removed and took apart the MFS. (requires a T8 torque bit) Lo and behold, there was gunk all over the contacts. So I did what anyone with OCD would do... I cleaned off the contacts. VOILA! It works great! no more intermittent signaling for me anymore!

Well some of that gunk might have been contact grease so the contracts dont get worn down. But that stuff can sure pick up dust and stuff. Without it though....

OK, Im back in the same rut...

My flashers (turn and hazard) hardly work at all.
I opened the multi-function switch and cleaned it out. (there's not much to it, just a bunch of contacts.)

I swapped relays around. (they're all the same!)
Still no dice.

Anyone know what else to check?

Thank you.
