Mods, relocate this if necessary.

Today I went down to the LKQ yard in Wayland (they call it the Grand Rapids location) to pick at a 93 they have there. It is purple on black, so far missing the driver door and rear left corner lamp, and after today the one-piece driveshaft. I also got word they have a 94 that just arrived but no other details, and it is not yet in the yard. If I make it down anytime soon with my old driveshaft ($8 core), I will try and check on the 94.

So just a heads-up that there are 2 gen 1s out this way, not that they're probably that hard to come across here as opposed to the east coast I'm used to.

Check the scrap price of aluminum before you take that driveshaft back. It's probably more than $8, because that's what they're going to do with that driveshaft when you take it back.

When the motor went in my '93, the junkyard charged me a $25 core. As I was about to leave, they were about to take a cutoff wheel to the exhaust manifold so they could keep the catalytic converter. I told them HELL no! They said just make sure I brought the old one back with the motor for my core charge. I laughed to myself and said of course!

I got that much in scrap for the cat, got $100-$150 for the teskid block, something like $50 for the heads and intake manifold, and whatever scrap value was for the crank, and 7 of the 8 rods and pistons (I kept the bent one, it's hanging in my garage). The motor, with tax and core, was only about $500 at the junkyard!

I didnt know that LKQ was a yard you could go into and pick at cars they have..I bought a set of wheels a while back off of ebay and went to their michigan city, IN location to pick them up..I got the impression that they only cut up cars and sold clips, and drivetrains to insurance companies/body shops..didn't know you could go in and buy small items.

Heck yeah this is my kinda yard. But I'll have to say I was spoiled at the U-Pick-It yard back in Arizona. No fighting with rusty bolts (a gas tank strap bolt would not turn more than once last week), and no negotiating giant puddles beneath the vehicles.
