SEMA: HOW FORD IS COMPETING IN THE LIGHTING MARKET

Not sure why they are still using halogen bulbs for the main headlight and not HIDs. Eventually LED headlights will make there way onto cars as the main light source. Right not it would be too expensive to make headlight LEDs.

When I turn on my high beams, I can see more of what's in front of me, but more to each side as well. Why doesn't someone come up with a lighting system that illuminates these areas ALL THE TIME, not while just going around a corner???

My high beams are useful when I'm driving home through the back roads where it is 50mph, dark, raining and a there's a chance that a deer will be crossing ahead. My low beams will not cover the sides nearly as well. I really find it hard to believe with all the lighting innovations today that this issue hasn't been addressed already...

Ironic, isnt it? of all the cars I have ever owned, my (what used to be) $40k car has the worst headlights than any other car I've driven. And now my headlights are BRAND NEW(Christmas present), and they STILL arent as good as most other cars out there. and it's that manufacturer that is trying to make 'state of the art breakthroughs in lighting'....pffft. go figure.

BTW, I wonder when someone will use my invention:

a headlight that has an adjustable pattern, like a mag-light uses.(yes, I thought of this years ago, way before my Gen 1)...that way the driver could use a turn-dial to adjust the beam for their own preference, without blinding oncoming traffic.

Oh, and even though I like some of those big, bad boy trucks out there...you know, the F-350 Powerstroke/Banks diesel 4X4 with tires/wheels big enough to drive over a Honda....why doesnt law enforcement do something about those, when it comes to headlight location? I mean....headlights that are 4 feet off the ground CANT be good for any on coming drivers.

and finally...I think it would be better if the roads were lit up better. sure, tax payers would have to pay for that, but think about how much car insurance companies would save, and how many lives could be saved...if roads were better lit, "night driving" wouldnt be as bad....

and my final thought...lets just figure out a way to keep the sun up all the time.

Sounds good except for one thing... 99.9% of the drivers out there would drive with them at full intensity all the time, just like they drive around all the time with their fog lights on when not needed. In most states it is illegal to use the fogs when not needed but nobody gets ticketed.

What about the idiots with imports who drive around with the rear fog light on (the bright red tail light) when it is clear out.

I drive around with the fog lights on all the time in my navigator. I want to figure out how to wire them so they come on automatically with the lights. As it is now i have to turn the lights on manually and pull on the control. The truck just looks cooler with the fog lights, and they aren't mounted or aimed high enough to blind anyone.

Law in MI, best i can tell, says no more than 4 white lights on the front of the vehicle can be illuminated at any one time. It's hard to define "fog" for legislative purposes.
