So... the first day of school... not so great

As I'm nearing the end of my day, I send one of my kids out to get something out of my car,
when she returns, she tells me "You're not gonna' be too happy when you see your car"...

She wasn't kidding... ::nono::

Tagged by a Toyota truck...

Luckily for me, one of the school maintenance guys was out in the parking lot
and stopped the driver before he took off.
The maintenance guy was able to get his information, so I really lucked out there...

Needless to say, I'm going to buy that guy a case of whatever he drinks...

Beware the pics are big.

Oh, man, that sucks. Make sure you find a good bodyshop for that.

Nice rims, BTW.

OH NO! Joe I'm so sorry. that's so upsetting. right after you got your new rims. that car was damn near perfect. they'll never match the color and red tinted clearcoat correctly.

and the jerk was just going to drive away?! man I'd be furious enough to drag him out through the window and show him the damage he caused.

you have my sympathies Joe. at least you do have some info on him. good luck getting the guy's insurance to pay to fix it right.

So now I guess that female student you were trying to impress with your shiny Mark VIII was not, :D

That just sucks, make sure paint gets matched correctly.

That is just awful! What did the guy do, put it in gear next to your car and floor it?!? That's a LOT of damage, for a parking lot incident!!

Joe is secretive. Nobody knew he got a new car until he showed up in cinci with it. Then nobody knew he got rims till he posted a pic of his new car all wrecked.

what else you got up your sleeve joe? did you get a vette too?

Thank you all for your sympathy... ;(

The guy backed into my car while he was turning around. He was looking in the other direction, never saw my car according to the maintenance guy who stopped him.

I’ve had some different body shops look at the work, some want to replace the panel, some want to pull it. Some want to paint pretty much the whole side of the car, others want to try and blend the paint into the door and rear fender. I’m really not sure what is best. Prices have ranged from a little over $1500 to a little under $3000, but that much is the insurance companies problem. I’d really love to hear all of your thoughts on the subject.

The rims are ADR 18” Kasai… and they are even better looking in person… the pictures don’t do them justice. Yes they are from Brad Story, cudaz101, he was great. I’ll do a write up all about that soon…

What else do I have up my sleeve? Well, ironically I didn’t drive my company car because I didn’t want to look too ostentatious… hahaha, plus the other faculty members have already seen my red Lincoln so that car has already passed the acceptable test. I suppose the real irony is that I never park in the faculty lot because I don’t have to be at the school until around 10, and by then the lot is pretty much packed. So, like I’ve always done, I parked in front of the building. After getting one of those friendly ‘don’t park in front of the building’ chats, when I returned from lunch I parked wayyyy at the end of the faculty lot. Which was pretty much the only place where there was space. Of course, my car gets hit…

Now back to my company car… it’s a 03’ Jag XK8 convertible. Just flipped 10K miles. Texas plates, so needless to say, I drive it like I stole it. The best thing about that Jag is that it wasn’t my $80K (or whatever those things go for) that bought it. Plus it looks like I’m due for an 05’ XK8 sometime in October.

Man, I wish I’d been driving that stupid Jag… I couldn’t care less if that car gets hit…

Anyway, I’m meeting with the adjuster Friday, if everything works out ok. So we’ll see what he or she says…

Here’s a few shots of the Jag. –J

Joe, I dont know you, but I have 3 things to say.
1) beautiful car you have there(just like my 97 LSC)
2) Dont let these folks bring you down with the comments about color matching.
3)I feel your sorrow. I just went through this with our absolutely MINT 95 Mark VIII last fall-only it WAS a hit and run-perp. was never found.

The body shops these days have some of the best, state-of-the-art color matching systems on the planet. I personally would pull it, and fill it. Replacing the whole rear 1/4 is a bigger job, and with all the electronics mounted back there, you run the risk of a body shop who doesnt know how to deal with Mark VIII electronics. No matter what, there is going to be filler(even new 1/4 panels arent perfect), so you might as well let the factory welds/seams/sealers stay on, and let these "metal workers" do their majic. I would NOT let the body shop replace our door skin. I know that once a car has been cut into, chances are the new replacement panel will never line up/seal as well. it's up to you, your insurance company, and the body shop, but replacing a rear 1/4 is no cake walk.

Our left side door was caved in, and the front fender had some tag-along damage as well.

5 days in the body shop, and the car came out, completely detailed, color matched so well that even I(8 yrs body shop experience) could NOT tell where the factory paint left off, and the body shop's finish started.

And it was a very tough color to match-Champagne. The paint had the correct flip-flop, clear coat tone, and orange peel. We actually sold the car 3 months later for more than we paid for it due to its pristine condition.

So, for what its worth, as bad as you feel, and as ufly as the car looks now, if you choose the right body shop, the car will come out looking even better than it did before it was hit.

I wish you luck, and please post pics of the car when it is done. BTW, since we sold the 95 for a profit, it was replaced with a 97 Toreador red LSC, and it is BY FAR one of the most beautiful, factory colors I have ever seen a car come with.

p.s. LOVE the rims!!! Give up your secret, how much did you pay???
