Probably a liberal website.....lame.
CHP is not allowed do use "speed traps", nor is any other agency that follows the California Vehicle Code. But in the websites defense, the CHP is allowed to have special operations where they have a "Motor"(chippy on a bike) site in plain view on top of an over crossing and radar the speeders and radio it to 8 or 9 awaiting CHP cars sitting on the on ramp. They each take turns pulling them over and issuing tickets. This is NOT a speed trap, plus the true definition of a speed trap(per the CA VC) is when officers measure a specific distance and time how fast you can cover that distance at the speed limit. Once they see a vehicle speeding, they time it and if they cover the distance faster, that car gets a ticket. So basically, by the time you see the officer, they have already timed you and caught you speeding. (and they always complain, yet they don't want to take responsibility for breaking the law)
CHP vehicles are NOT allowed to hide or conceal themselves, and actually, its policy to be patrolling "in-view" because people are less likely to break the law if they see you.
