maybe a charging problem, but then again you surge when you start, Im going with vacuum leak, or IAC even though its new

i would say IAC.

Check for vacuum leaks, and get the codes pulled. are you getting a c/e light?

the almost stalling on throttle tip in problem could be a camshaft position sensor, or faulty wires at the connector for the cam position sensor. I had that problem on my '94, when i tipped into the gas it would either hesitate or just stall, but not all the time.

Well, my car has fixed itself. It hasn't done any of those things, aside from the almost stalling when I first start it for the day, for the past three days.

I had a 93 with the same drama, I went to my parts guy at ford and he showed me this black rubber Tee fitting on the passenger side rear engine near the fire wall. At least that is where I last rememeber it. I would take a picture but I am on a Nimitz class aircraft carrier at sea, I miss my car more than my wife. And that is bad. I am sure that someone has replaced that fitting before. I replaced it, it is a HUGE vaccum fitting it was dry rotted bad. And a lot of my rough and wierd idle went away.

That is almost surely the Idle Air Control. Mine went and the car kept stalling at startup, then fixed itself. Then a few days later back it came. Bought a new IAC ($52) and the problem vanished.

Here's the deal, I just started having this problem recently. When I first start the car, it starts up just fine. I'll let it warm up for a few seconds, it idles fine, I put it into drive, and when I press the gas the first couple of times, it almost seems like the fuel is being cut off. It comes close to stalling. Then after I get going, this never happens again. Only on initial start-up after the car has been sitting overnight.

Also aside from that issue, my idle in park and neutral has suddenly changed recently. It was always around 600 RPM or so. Now, only after I have been driving (not on the first start-up of the day), when I put it back into park, it'll rev at 900 RPM for 10-20 seconds, and then go up to 1100 RPM for 10-20 seconds. It'll keep going back and forth as long as I leave the car in park......switch into drive, and it's normal. Freaky. This problem has been more recent and I don't believe it's the same problem as the hesitaion on initail start of the day.

Also, now, anytime that I start the car, it'll immediately jump to over 2000 RPMs before it drops right back down into the normal (higher than normal) range. This problem has coincided with the RPMs jumping from 900 to 1100. I never noticed the RPMs going this high on start-up before.

Here are things I've done recently:

TPS
IAC
plugs
wires
water pump
alternator
fuel filter
PCV valve

I'm going to clean my MAF sensor right now, but I don't really think that's the problem.

Any ideas???

Sorry this is in the general forum, but I don't know the exact problem, so I figured I'd cover all bases. Feel free to move it to the appropriate forum.
