Strong smell under heavy acceleration

So I've noticed more and more recently that my 94 mark viii has a strong smell inside the car under heavy acceleration. It doesn't smell like sulpher like a lot of posts I find online. It just smells like really strong exhaust. I only notice this when I punch it...any suggestions?

exhaust leak or the car maybe running rich

What year is you car?

94, what would you guys recommend to check for an exhaust leak?...this is very likely since my car bottomed out frequently when the front air ride was out.

Should I just fire it up and spray it with some soapy water like finding a leak in my tire?

I would put it up on jackstands and get under it while it's running (cold) and just follow the exhaust all the way back. You should be able to hear or feel the leak. Don't forget to check the EGR tube, you'll see it connected to the driver side cat.

+2 on the EGR Tube. They crack allot on the gen I's and leak. It's up near the drivers side cat going up to the back of the intake.
