Suncore coil strut install?

About a year ago I replaced my front air springs with suncore coil over gas struts and was happy with it. Now the rear is shot and I just received my suncore rear springs and shocks.

Tried installing them today with no luck and am amazed at how poorly everything fits together.

The kit came with 2 springs, 4 rubber insulators (1 for each top and bottom of spring), and 4 metal cups that appear to go over the ends of springs and rubber insulators.

My problem is that I can't get the metal cups to fit over the springs properly. I'm not sure if they are wrong size or maybe I'm missing something. Has anybody installed these before?

Will post pics asap

Here's the kit

You can see here that the rubber insulator fits perfectly in the cup and seats completely down in:

Here you can see the notch in the rubber insulator so that it can only go on one way. The seating surface also spirals screw like to so that the spring seats on the whole surface:

You can see here that the rubber insulator fits over the coil. Notice it bulges where the spring is inset:

This is as far as I could get the metal cup onto the spring with the insulator on the spring. It will not fit over the spring, only the part that's just rubber:

This is me trying to get the spring in the cup without the rubber insulator. It will not even fit into the cup this way:

Am I missing something?... Do I maybe have wrong size cups and insulators for my spring? There is plenty of space on lower control arm for larger metal cup

Any help would be much appreciated

Honestly I didnt even use those, i used the big cap that has the nipple on it to center it though. Havent had any problems so far

Not sure what your saying. The metal cup does have a nipple on it but the spring won't fit in the cup. Did your spring actually go inside the cup or just rest on the rim?

ok...the metal cup goes on TOP....no rubber sleeve the stud aligns the spring in to the upper position(there is a whole in the cross-memebr to line it up with)
the rubber sleve goes on the lower end of the coil where it sits in the lower control arm.
the rubber sleeve does NOT go inside the metal cup

and SUNCORE can kiss your butt for not sending you illustrated instructions...another reason why I've never used them.

Well I got them on last night. I pulled the other spring out just for the heck of it and the metal cups slid on pretty easy.

This made me take a closer look at the first spring and it appeared to not go in the cups because the top coil on it was not in line with the rest.

I ended up grinding on it a little to make it fit.

I ended up putting the metal cup on top and bottom of spring WITHOUT the rubber insulators

Ride height is OK. ride quality is ok, but much stiffer than when the air ride actually worked.

In the end I would definitely not recommend the suncore kit to anybody. Quality is poor an seems "too universal".

I will post their illustrated instructions later, you might get a kick out of it like I did.

They also gave me directions for disabling the air ride warning message if anybody wants that

To their credit, the air ride instructions are pretty good. Particularly when all they had to say was "cut the green wire"

so they sent you two metal cups per spring? that's odd.
I only used rubber on the LOWER coils to insulate between the coil and the aluminum LCA as I didn't want metal on aluminum.
I slid 5/8 heater hose on to my lower coil since the strutmaster's kit doesn't come with rubber pads.
The spring just sits in the lower control arm using the vehicle weight as load to hold it in the cup of the LCA. adding anything to the top or bottom of the spring can alter the rear ride height. If you wish to lower the rear a tad, remove the metal cup from the bottom of the spring and add the rubber.

The lack of quality in this doesn't surprise me at all although it seems they tried a little harder than the Strutmasters junk I installed in another members car. Although I'm not an advocate of coils in any Mark VIII, I do wish someone would make a proper kit. When the T-Bird guys put the aluminum Mark LCAs in their cars they always do so with a proper spring perch. Why don't any of these kits come with or even have the option of a spring perch to proper locate the spring to the LCA. Nevermind the fact that the Monroe shocks used in many of these kits really lack the quality of OEM shocks.

gbradleyb - Glad you were able to get this install completed and I hope everything holds up well for you.
