Have you ever had a shop bill you before the repair? I just sent my ATV to the shop to get tuned up and stuff and they called me and said I need to pay upfront, I feel like that's weird.

My family Has a Repair shop/Tire store. We usually only ask for Payment up front if it's a special order item, or we think the person will not pay.

Nice, so you are saying Mike must look like a bum that can't pay.

I can see on a special order item, but how do you know who can pay and can't pay. As they say you can never judge a book by its cover. And I think you can put a mechanics lean on the car until they pay.

Have you dealt with them before? Keep in mind that sometimes when a shop is about to close down they get what they can then shut the doors, after that you'll never get your money back.

I can deff see that. Plus ALOT of atv's are stolen so this is a way of making sure they are paid even if it turns up stolen and the police impound it. Also getting a shop Lien is expensive and a pain. Did they ask for all the money up front? if so that's odd, but if they asked for partial payment or part money I'd say that's normal.

and they asked for all of it

that is odd. I normally ask for the parts money but not labor till it's done.
