The Great American Eclipse

Some of you know I take this astronomy stuff fairly seriously so I was just wondering if anyone else is in the path of totality of will be headed towards it?

My family and I drove down to Kansas to visit the Cosmosphere space museum and we'll be watching the eclipse from Amelia Earharts home town of Atchison KS.

Been waiting years for this.

We got lots of rain and when I thought all hope was lost the clouds thined and totality washed over. Then we had good skys to watch it move on. Couldn't believe how dark it got, don't have any real good pictures because I believe seeing with my eyes are better than any camera. But here is one that I think is worth sharing, 13:09 in the afternoon...

All in all it was a good trip, got to visit a museum that's been on my list for a while and got to experience the eclipse. Hopefully my daughter will be old enough for the next one.

I didn't realize you were in the path, Chris. Hopefully your weather was better.

I live in the 99% area. About an hour and a half away from maximum coverage.
Big difference between 99% and %100, so worth this traffic jam I'm still in, to go.

I think it's pretty neat the whole country got involved in this. Much better than that political stuff.

Traffic jam at 10pm in the middle of nowhere IOWA, all caused by Minnesota people driving home. Could really do without this right now.

We loved it here. Yeah, sometimes there were clouds. Yeah, sometimes I put on the glasses Mark gave me before I moved and I'd walk into things. But looking at it and seeing the moon start to move over the sun, and seeing it slowly moving and the cool color and the quietness outside, was just awe inspiring!

The 99%(probably 98.5%, actually) was a lot brighter than I was expecting. Not anywhere near as dark as the 100% swath.

Edit: In Columbia, SC the temperature dropped 12 degrees.

wine country, Cali
we had fog/low cloud cover so absolutely zero view.
One thing that was cool was for about 20 minutes, the temperature dropped 10+ degrees, and it got pretty dark for 10:15am
felt like early december outside.
But we saw zero % of the eclipse.

We had a party at work to watch it, but it was mostly cloudy. Did gat a brief look through the glasses at the peak. We had eclipse themed treats like Starbursts, eclipse gum, Sun Chips, and Capri Sun drinks.

I watched it here in CT. Did'nt have glasses, and it was bright. How bright, I had on sunglasses, a welding helmet, and a hand held welding shield. It took all three to be as good as my neighbors glasses.
