The New Lincolns

I like the basic design of the MKS - a sport sedan with a 315hp V-8 mated to a six speed transmission. It is a clean design with a Lincoln grille. Unfortunately, when you take away its Lincoln grille it is nearly identical to other sport sedans from Toyota, BMW and others. That kick-up on the rear door windows has been used on so many sedans including the 1996 Chevy Caprice. It is old and tired design that does not convey an original identity to this sedan. With all their designers, why can't Lincoln come up with a fresh new look, or are they afraid?

The AWD is nice too, but I am not big on the exterior styling, and the cross over looks like a moon buggy, could be the color.

But look at the demographics of the executives who are making the decisions. Looks like Lincoln is targeting an older crowed again. I thought with the LS the goal was to try to get younger buyers familiar with the Lincoln brand.
Cadillac is more aggressive in going after the top luxury car segment and younger buyers. Lincoln is too conservative.

I don't like the new Cadillac’s, they look like %#%^. Lincoln’s look much better. To attract a younger crowd they would have to bring something out that would compete with the 3 series, the new IS, and the G from Infiniti, as well as a slew of other not noteworthy cars. And there is NO WAY Lincoln can do it with their (or should I say Mazda 6) FWD/AWD chassis. Besides Lincoln always targeted an older demographic, I don’t see why they should change their ways now. Younger buyers should opt for ford and mercury.

Because after their older buyers die so will Lincoln.

If those are 20" wheels on the MKS like the commentary says, that must really be a big car, since it would look about normal if the wheels shown were 17's. And while it says AWD, is that with a horizontally mounted engine, which would mean they just added rear drive to a FWD chassis?

There will always be plenty of old farts around, hence lincoln was around for 70 years now.

they didn't have the competition they have today.
it's about time they came out with something new, although I haven't
seen one of those Zephers on the road. I agree with Steve, go after
the younger crowd. Caddy may not have the looks but they have the V series which is competitive in todays market.
with that said, I like the MKS and Peter Horbury should get a new tie
