The Sulfur Blast

New to the site, yes I have a lot of issues to release. I'd post them all at once but I don't want you to think I'm on a coke trip.
Yes,. I admit that I can smell bad at times, there I said it! But only when I punch it.
Car runs normal, but if I accelerate, just enough to pop out of O/D I get a sulfur blast, followed by the obligatory "check engine" light, which will go out within a mile or two.
I read what I can find on the old posts' but I cannot believe it's the cats. If if were the cats, it would mean that I'm breathing exhaust at 75 MPH all the time. It's just comes on so fast that I can only conceive that it's coming from the engine compartment.
Mentioned it my mechanic (a trusted man) and said it's probably a clogged EGR down tube, that is dumping the overflow. Now I'm not sure what that means, but I have an idea.
Anybody have any wisdom on this? My girlfriend is beginning do doubt my excuse!!

Try to pull the code when the CEL turns on.

Thank you Friend,.. I don't know what that means. I know my cars, but I don't know what that means.
I had a "coder" when I had my 88 T-Bird but I don't have a coder for this car.
Weather true or false, my mechanic told me that my car does not store codes (though my 88 did) and I have to bring it in when the "check engine" light was lit. I did that one morning and they searched for a devise that would read my "antique" codes and finally borrowed one from another shop but it didn't work. And this is a reputable shop. Perhaps they just blew me off as "too much time expended."
If there's a reader for my 95, please tell me of the best models and I'll pick one up tomorrow.
So what's "CEL?"

You might just need new O2 sensors, the codes would tell you that if that's the case.

Does the car get poor fuel mileage?

Sounds like your mechanic likes to take people for a ride. LOL!

They have never steered me in the wrong direction Good Luck!

new oxygen sensors fixed that for me.
if that doesn't fix it, you've already hurt the cats with a lean burn or too much fuel and they have lost efficiency.
gut or replace. or don't, if the car runs ok.

I get that smell every once and a while but it never triggers a cel. It always happens while punching it up an incline as weird as that may sound. Anyways, I've read that removing the third cat has worked for some members. Nothing you can really do until you get that cel read.
