Things are going down hill!

Yeah, I did see that and with that I said something to the new mechanic about that as well. Very helpful and good info!!!

So, The good news...

The distributor of course (as can be seen by the pictures I posted) is not the original and it is not the electronic one that is suppose to be on the car. Turns out that because it was put in by Napa (I really have never had good luck with them EVER) they did not adjust the timing correctly and the timing was off by 20% they also needed to adjust the points to get everything to line up right so that they could adjust the timing.
It only cost me $119 with diag and everything. So, that is not bad considering.
I am going to pick it up when my wife gets home so she can drop me off.
He said that the current distrib will be fine now and that he would not be worried about it now that it is in there right and the timing is set but for collector purpose, because the car is in such great shape that I may want to put the original one back in at some point. So, Anyone have a distrib for an '83 Lincoln Continental?

Can't wait to go pick up my car! I have missed it!! I really hope that this solved everything and that it is back in action! Now all I need to do is get one of those R12 bottles and refill kits from Ebay and recharge...I mean...have a certified tech recharge my system! If I can do that it would mean that EVERYTHING works on this '83 Lincoln. That is rare right there! If everything is good with it I'll be hitting some of the car shows this summer with it. You don't see many old Lincolns at the cars shows and mine is in good enough original condition it MAY just win something! Would be cool to get a few awards under it's belt!

Next thing for the car (if the engine is ready to go) is a new paint job!!! People have been trying to talk me into painting it black but, even though that would look super slick I think this car stands out with the pearl white that it is and it really shows off the lines of the car. Plus my goal with this is not to make it some pimp mobile but to keep it original. It is pimp enough the way it is! ;) only thing i may customize in the future it the wheels but, I will keep the hub caps. Oh, I would like to put some full, large white walls on it too. Saw a white Lincoln with those and it looked amazing!
Anywho, I am very happy that the problem was something easy. I'll let y'all know if they really fixed it or if it is like the last place.

GREAT NEWS....

My car is working great!!!! It works great, sounds great, smells fine, has full power and is shifting perfect!!!! And they cut me a discount and it ended up costing only 102.00$
These guys know what they are doing! When I showed up they had a 1950's Jag, a nice 80's Vett, and something that was shiny and cool up on the lift. So my car was small fries for them. Still, the mechanic that worked on it came in to talk to me about it and he said that it was a very impressive car. That it was in the best shape he has seen of a luxury car from the 80's, even the Cadillac's that he has seen. He said that the engine is going to run just fine the way it is but if I can find the parts they will be happy to put everything back to original. He said it would not be hard to do and they could have it done in a day. So, time to start a parts list!
I am going to just enjoy it the way it is for the summer though I may get a paint job later this summer and then work on putting the engine back to original this winter and have the pillow tops on my seats redone. Once that is done this car will be almost perfect. There is really nothing else it needs and some of that it doesn't NEED it would just clean it up a bit and make it even stronger for the future. I would like to be able to leave this car to my son when I go. He is 10 right now so, it will be a while.

Anywho, MY CAR IS BACK!!!! Very happy! I should have just taken it there to begin with! Would have saved a lot of trouble!

Things are still going great! I have found that first thing in the morn it can be a little hard starting and if I just let it run without tapping the gas it sounds like the idle speeds up a little and then slows down and so on. If I push on the gas for a few seconds then it stops.
Probably should just take it back to them.
But, other then that it is running great and driving like a dream!!! I love this car even more now!!
Tomorrow I am heading to the paint and body shop to get an estimate on painting.
Trying to line everything up for this winter since I have a winter beater car now. So I can really just run the Lincoln from shop to shop and have everything that needs refreshed done. The custom shop that fix the timing said that from what they have seen that it is not in need of a "restoration" as there is no rust or wear on the under body. The engine is just dirty and would probably look brand new with a good clean up.
They also do frame off restorations there. He asked me what I paid for the car. I told him and his words were "Wow! You got that for a steal! Nice find!" That made me feel kind of good cuz I was starting to doubt my car. So, when I take it back to them I think I am going to have them clean the engine as well. He said they could give it a full cleaning and do a touch up. Also, I am looking for a distributor for it. So if y'all know of one I am in the market. They said the one that is on it is fine but, that it is not what it should have. I wold just rather it have what it should and if I have to take it back I may as well have them do that too.

Have you looked on Summit Racing site for a distributor? There have everything from stock replacement to high end ignition components there for those motors. I know a few racing compadres with the older 5.0L V8 engine.

I'll have to check it out and see what they have. Would like to keep things as original as possible however old parts to have a tendency of being or going bad.
